I picked up an e-manage blue the other day:

First planned to use the vafc2 and now I have a EB sitting here. Should I sell both for a EU?

Can someone confirm this please: E-manage Blue using injector harness can only raise fuel and not lower it? After finding out it can't advance timing this is another low blow. The only thing going for the EB that I can see at this point is that I would be able to connect a WB02 like an aem uego to data log and tune. Also, I'm thinking of getting a j&s safeguard to protect me from noob tuning mistakes.

This is true. It sucks I know. But this is the exact reason I passed on a great deal for the EB. Start researching the AEM FIC. You can get one brand new for about the same price as a used EB. (Less if you factor in the cost of the extra harness' and the pressure sensor) Only thing it cant do is advance timing directly. It does pull timing based off cam and crank signals though. Also, it does not have an "extended rev limiter" option, but it does control injectors the same way the EU does. So in theory, it should be able to extend our limiter.

Did you have to modify your plate for belt clearances with that small pulley? I'm talking about the s/c to plate bolt to the bottom right of the pulley.

I didn't modify the plate. If you take a picture of yours I can compare it to mine and let you know.

You may have to shave it down a bit. I run a 2.87 pulley and had to shave a bit. Not a huge deal...

If you are sticking with the emanage blue it would be good to get the injector and the ignition harnesses, you can do a whole lot more tuning with those.

I really wanted the EU so I can advance the ignition but I only had de-k injectors and vafc2 so these cobra injectors and EB is a nice plus. I haven't gotten into tuning yet but I'm almost there. I will definitely need those additional harnesses. Thanks for the heads up. Still have to figure out what to do about the intercooler or if I should use it at all. BTW If anyone needs DW injectors let me know.

You can indirectly advance timing with the blue by subtracting fuel in the airflow map but I don't see the need on a boosted car. As far as the intercooler I would use it 2.5" pipe is fine, if running no ic I would run 3" pipe from the s/c to the tb and would go with water injection or water aftercooler.

This intercooler has 2" IN/OUT DIA. and don't know if I should use it becuase I'm concerned it'll resstrict boost.

If you already have it might as well try it out.
I know when I ran an IC with a smaller I/O then my charge piping it limited my boost.

Which one would cool better?
http://www.frozenboost.com/product_i...b3963527d095bf
or
http://www.frozenboost.com/product_i...b3963527d095bf

Using one of these would provide the shortest boost piping. Short 3" pipe with a maxflow bov.

Which one should I buy? Installing the 00VI with svt cobra injectors. It's been a while but I need to use my afpr to set base FP before messing with the EU right?

I was just looking at the 5th gen fuel rail and the line coming off the fpr, the end looks similar to the fuel rail adapter, I wonder if I can use that instead? Need to find my allen keys and find out.

Update: exhaust install

Removed rad/fans, front exhaust manifold heat shield, all front exhaust manifold nuts, rear exhaust manifold heat shield and half the nuts, loosened the egr tube but it wouldn't budge on the exhaust manifold side, also got stuck on the drivers side closet first bottom nut, such a angle where the socket/wrench is hitting the engine mount guard. I'm going to try a swivel tomorrow or a ratcheting wrench. Liquid wrench and propane torch is amazing. Ever heard of kroil? Just ordered it for this job but I couldn't wait. My friend which was helping started calling the liquid wrench cruel, haha it's been a long day. But all in all it's going a lot better and faster than I thought. I need to bust out the camera, dust it off, charge it up, and start taking pics.

Nice to see some progress. In the future, please use Photobucket or equivalent, as the website that's currently hosting your pics sucks big time.

Fixed. It was a long day, tired, couldn't think right and was upset imageshack requires an account. Just realized I already had one. But yea progress is good. Popped my header cherry. I love how people on this forum make things sound more difficult than they really are. First the water pump, now this... What's the best way to deal with the manifold gaskets? Reuse the old ones? Reuse the old ones with RTV? Or buy new oem ss gaskets?

I ordered my V1 kit over a year ago and never installed it yet. I need to replace my thermostat now because it's sticking. Is it possible for me to install the V1 thermostat housing and cut the radiator hoses without putting on the V1 bracket and rotating the alternator???

Yes you can do that. Rotating the alt? You just shave one of the nubs done a little I know I have a pic back there of it. The SC kit install is easy. I remember when I first looked and read over all of the instructions I was overwhelmed but when I actually did the install it seemed a lot easier. Nice thing about it being a bolt on is that you can run a FMU and have the car working asap. Then you can get into tuning and more boost. BTW everyone I wanted to wrap my headers but I'm scared by the cracking stories. I already painted them and the y-pipe/cat with one can of VHT header ceramic paint. Maybe I'll just use the other can I bought and paint them again and install them. Decisions decisions...

I have a v2 kit, and you have to rotate the alternator to install, no shaving.

To install the modified thermostat, do I need to shave the alternator? Or is that just to install the v1 plate?

First you said V1 and now you're saying V2. I have a V1 kit and I don't remember but I want to say it's to clear the thermostat housing. I'll actually go install my supercharger today so I can tell you later. I'm excited. It's been quite a while.

I have a V2 and took it off due to belt shredding issues. I purchased Matty's V1 kit but haven't installed it yet. I wanted to replace my thermostat and possibly install the modified housing now without the blower or plate.

I'm doing a 3.5 6 speed swap. '02 parts but I don't think I want to use the '02 ecu since that will complicate the install. I've read about it all a while ago so I forgot most of everything, should be fun though.

Any updates? How did you make out with the IC and that water to air aftercooler you were speaking of?

What did you wind up doing for tuning and what components did you stay with?

Nice thread by the way, read every post. This will be a big help once I install mine. I have Mattys V1 plate just waiting for a good deal on a V1 kit.

Haven't been driving it, had to save up for parts. Still haven't gotten to the intercooler part but I will buy the water to air when I do. I did however purchase a 6 speed trans from MA (fun drive) and started piecing together a 6 speed swap. I got lucky when a local member was parting his '02 so I got another 6 speed trans but I also grabbed everything else I needed and the engine which came with some goodies like three solid poly motor mounts, poly subframe bushings, poly shifter bushings, nwp spacers, nismo cap, weighted **** etc. I also bought an engine hoist and stand. The vq35de will go on the stand and perhaps a vq32 or something along those lines will come out of it. High compression with SC would be nice. That's going to be a project of its own. What I'm doing now is working on stripping the '99 SE and junking the shell and pushing the '97 GLE into it's spot so I can work on it and finally drive it. I need to order the banhof clutch off ebay and a timing ring. This is going to be so much fun. I always wanted a manual car and now I'm making my own. YAY! http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...installed.html BTW here's some other stuff I bought while waiting. I have a wet NOS kit (yes nawz), wilwood 2-piece bbk, 3 piece jdm wheels, jic coilovers, catman headers and fast cat, etc. LMK when you get your stuff I can help you.

Awesome you are doing a complete overhaul. Nice where did you find the JICs? I want a set but they dont make them anymore for 4th gen . at least not at this time.

Im in the process of getting my own kit. I found a good deal for a nice V1 kit. All I need is a walbro 255 pump, some hoses to relocate resevoir and power steering lines etc. Im also going the JWT route.. I hope Im happy with it.. the good is that its plug and play the bad I hear the tune with JWT ECUs is rich and I might still need a tune to maximize my HP .. dunno I will see. I also plan on 370 cc injectors and I am getting the AEM FPR to handle the fuel. 1 step colder plugs, other than that I think Im set . Hopefully I will have everything within the next week or two and I will start the install.

I know, so when I saw them I had to grab them! I found them from a member selling them in cali. I was looking at BC coilovers at the time and saw these pop up.

Just a little update

It's that time of year again. Spending more time on the forum. Hopefully I'll have this car up soon. Been saving tons of money to get it going. Still need tons of parts wb02, 3" or 4" cat-back (hurry up wizzard lol jk), tires for the 3 piece wheels, intercooler, and the list goes on. Also will start searching for a j&s safeguard again as I want one for insurance. I had a member offer me one but I stopped working on the car at the time and also ran out of money, plus other things... Anywhoo cheers happy modding everyone!

Don't want to let the cat out of the bag too early but I found a really nice barrel intercooler, it's huge. I can't wait to get it and start putting this car together so that I can update with photos and videos.
