turbo manifolds for 4th gen

Hey guys. I'm starting this thread as a feeler to see if there is adequate demand for a 4th gen turbo manifold do justify doing a production run. I have been running a prototype version in my own car for about 5 months and it's been an amazing summer. I'm happy to say I've recently gained access to some tooling that will help me build a few more for testing. The first few will be hand welded from sections mandrel bent exhaust tubing from purchased Jegs and use OEM flanges that I have lying around, but my goal is to bring my design to a company that can do CNC mandrel bending so that each pipe can be made in one piece. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
Pipes mocked up and tacked v

fully welded, pressure tested, and header painted. the final product will probably be ceramic coated v

header wrapped v

This is how it sits in the car v

I do still have a/c, although I only have one fan hooked up right now. I have room for another fan, but the a/c is working fine and i don't really use it anyway.

I will take some and post them.

Well that really wouldn't apply to this thread, it is a feed/manifold piping for the turbo, the power it produces depends on a million different factors, turbo size, boost, timing, etc... He is just offering the maxima community an option for those who want to boost, which we need!

im already sold on this, i was hoping you would make a few more. would it be possible to change the direction of the turbo flange so the downpipe is in front? i like the y pipe just want to change the placement of the turbo in the engine bay a tiny bit

I will be getting the car dynoed some time before the spring, but like streetz said results will vary greatly. I'm making 16lbs of boost with a JWT ECU, Z32 MAF, and 370cc injectors and it is maxed out on these injectors right now which means probably somewhere around 425hp.

most of the materials have already arrived. I'm going to start building another one some time in the next couple of weeks. just picked up a new 14" metal chop saw and a solid state tig welder I still need an argon tank and regulator and to get rid of that stripped maxima carcass in my garage so i have room to work though.
Its gonna cost me a few bucks to get the ball rolling so hopefully it will be worth the trouble.

I have done this before too, something you might want to consider is that you seem to have a different radiator, and I know that it is a tight fit down there with a stock radiator and fans. Good luck with your venture.

Yeah, That's a double core radiator from a civic. I prefer to keep the feed pipes above the cross-member so they don't get crushed like others I've seen.
Radiators are so cheap on ebay now, you can pretty much just buy one with the dimensions you want for like $65. My fan is just a cheapo slim fan i got for $25. I'm a fan of anything that saves space and weight.

The clutch has a lot of holding power and is very streetable. I like it a lot. I had an XTD stage 2 in there before and it simply could not hold the power in the upper gears. This one is rock solid.
As for a price, we still are afraid to say because I've only built one so far and I put a lot of time into it. I'm planning a few thing to simplify production so it should be somewhere between $700 to $1000. Right now I'm doing a lot of cutting and welding to rout the pipes, but a might be doing CNC mandrel bending soon instead. I have to get a quote on outsourcing that. So things are kind of up in the air right now price wise. I welcome feedback on this subject. I don't want to price it out of reach, but a lot of work goes into these and the tools and materials are costing me a pretty penny.

if the ebay wastegate takes a dump, there goes your motor.. that is something i wouldnot cut corners on, over boost, you will replace an engine.

perhaps you can divide the feedpipes somewhere to make tranny removal or general working in that area easier. just a thought.

The feed pipes don't affect tranny removal, but you're prob right about the wastegate. Lucky for me my intercooler piping blows off the maf at around 17psi

Thanks for all your PMs guys. Everyone who PMed me will be getting a call this week to discuss what specs you want on your manifold. Turbo flange size, Forward or rear routed piping, ect. So I can order more raw materials.

BTW I threw a new motor in my whip over the weekend and it's nice and shiny now. Here's the new engine bay pic. I gotta say, it still puts a big smile on my face every time I pop my hood and see that turbo sitting there next to a nice clean motor

I dont have a good pic of the down pipe on car, but I do have this pic of it off the car. My down pipe is comes off the turbo with 2.5" to fit between the bolts on 5-bolt flange, then increases to a 3" V-band flange at the bottom to tie into my 3" exhaust.
Downpipes will vary depending on your turbo, but if you know what you're using I should be able to put one together for you to get you driving. Should be about $200.

Just finished another manifold. This one was made to repmax's specs, with turbo inlet facing the strut tower. Kind of the opposite of mine.

repmax requested a down-pipe so I got that set. He's picking it up this weekend so I'm looking forward to having him test fit it for me. Here's another picture on the engine stand with my old motor. that thing on top of the motor is a new intake design we're working on for turbo cars.
