rough 3" or stock 2.5" charge pipe?
rough 3" or stock 2.5" charge pipe?
Hello, my current sc charge pipe has a 3" diameter but the rough edges are bound to cause alot of turbulence. I have a 2.5" stillen charge pipe that I wanted to install. It looks much cleaner, 1 piece so more laminar flow.
Would I see a performance loss? Wouldn't all that turbulance negate the gains or a larger diameter?
The setup is the black 90 with ridges, Bov section, coupling, long pipe piece, 45° rubber coupling, 45° pipe, coupling then maf adapter. That will be reduced to a silicone 90° connected to a stillen pipe.

+1
If you're refering to the rubber coupler next to the BOV, and assuming it's "stepped" on the inside like it is on the outside, then yes, that is very bad and will cause turbulence.
FWIW, the inside of pipes should be as smooth as possible, rubber couplers should be kept to a minimum, avoid kinks and sharp angles, avoid tight radii, and transitions from big to small or visa versa should be kept to a minimum as well.
As for 3" vs 2.5", I'll address that a little bit later. Gotta run.

Sorry, I don't have any pics yet. Thanks though.
I'll order the parts needed to convert back to 2.5 (Blitz BOV and 2.5" to 2.75" silicone 90° ell) and tell you the results from the *** dyno. From the looks of the inside of my installed pipes, I will not loose a thing but gain space and a cleaner compartment.
