quick spooling low pressure turbo choices?
Hi Guys. Long time reader first time asker.
So a while back in 2001 I put a vq30de in a Porsche 914. It's been fun, but looking to add some whoooosh.
Engine sits 90* from what you're used to so no radiator in the way. Setup plan is basically reverse y-pipe into turbo. Boosted air heads straight up into air/water ic then 90* into 03 style custom built reversed IM. Couldn't get anymore efficient lol. Limited by the trans to ~300hp, thus that's my target. Would prefer a strong low/mid increase as it's usually just driven topless around town, car club road trips, and some autox.
The Squirrel Perf page and a VG30ET page both favor the gt3076r/gt30r, but honestly I don't drive enough to justify the $1200. Saw the Godspeed faux 3076r, and I read, here I'm sure, that the ebay stuff would be fine with Garrett bearings, but it's specs don't really match up. Precision's website lacks good specs and I don't get the numbering system. Most of the builds I've seen here use a t04e variant but shoot for higher hp/rpm so not ideal for my app. I think ideal would be a 3076r without the pricey ball bearings if I can find one. Don't need to be blowing cash in the latest technology for a 40 y/o car, you know what I'm say'n...
So what turbo would you recommend?

A Dodge Truck Diesel turbo?? The Porsche purists will so scorn me.
I've got a few pics from the 01 build. Never really 'finished' it... loose wiring, half done dash, ecu in the truck.... Had to move on to more 'adult' responsibilities so didn't get everything quite as I wanted. Conversion works great. Perfect cooling. stiff clutch. sloppy shifter. There will be a v2 build thread on 914world hopefully this summer.

57 trim garret t3/t04e with a stage 5 wheel in a .63 turbine should be cheap , and quick spooling = ~375 whp , or the same thing with a t4 P trim turbine using a machined .63 ar t3 housing =~400 whp and have low/mid power, for more top end id go with the .82 ar housing or step up to a full t4 housingh.. not a gt turbo, journal bearing, but should be a 500-599 $$ turbo

well i have a local dealer in miami that has them for 550-600 bucks but i found these guys on ebay that have many options for 599 shipped. this one has the t4 p trim and they give you the option of housings, .63 t3 being one f them,

if you look through you will find options w a stage 3 or stage 5 wheel. basically the stage 3 flows less than the stage 5, the stage 5 flows less than the P trim (as this is a t4 wheel not t3 like the other 2), allow more power, but slightly slower spoolup as you move up
