great power, and it looks like the intercooler piping is 2.5"???, great way to prove that bigger really isnt better. most people go nutz trying to fit 3" pipes and dont make 400 whp. enjoy it man, that car should be a beast!!!

I thought this was VERY interesting..

I took my fully bolted on and tuned ALL Motor Maxima tune and laid it on top of the Turbo tune......

Before (All motor): 275whp @6000rpm & 258ft-lbs @4700rpm

After (Turbo): 404whp @6200rpm & 393ft-lbs @4500rpm

DIFFERENCE: +129WHP & +138FT-LBS @8psi

As you can see there is no lag at all.

At 3000rpms Im making 148whp & 260ft-lbs vs. 127whp & 224ft-lbs.

At 3500rpms Im making 192whp & 288ft-lbs vs. 154whp & 231ft-lbs.

Basically increases through out the ENTIRE RPM BAND!! SWEET!!

Btw, it's almost time to upgrade your fuel rail. And it's definitely time if your going for more power in the future

For some reason I have not come across any issues with my fuel rail at my power level. I have the 04 version where it has one inlet and Y's off into two sides (no outlet at the ends).

if I remember correctly you did, uneven a/f between the front and rear banks as hp goes above 400 it gets worse. That's why on my350z they feed both rails, even 96sleeper modded his. Another option is a dek rail

I ended up converting to a return style setup on my 5.5 gen and upgraded the fuel rails while I was at it. The issue you were having is most likely related to your fuel rails.

Yeah, I was talking with Streetz and You can buy a used VQ35DE for cheap like $900 and then put pistons, rods, bearings in it.....then drop the new OIL BURNING FREE VQ in and make 500whp all day...probably cost about $4k which would not be a problem.....could be a possibility in the future.

Look for the motor out of a Quest minivan and you can get it cheaper. I grabbed mine for $700 with 36,000 miles on it. Just an idea.

the motor should be fine on 400 for the most part...anything above that you should really consider building it up. Most 350 and G guys are fine at 400 on a stock bottom end. I don't think I would want more than 400whpin a fwd sedan anyways.

i think Tom was getting at the fact that you're probably close to maxing out the capacity of the factory fuel rails and that if you were to push for more power you would run the risk of your fuel supply not being able to handle the task, leading to lean conditions and burnt piston rings.

Why not more than 400whp in a FWD car? Are you referring to traction? I have no problems with traction at all.....you just need to have control over your foot.

i.e. you're not really putting your power down because if you do put your power down traction does become an issue.

This.

Unless you can stuff some monstrously wide front tires you will always be traction limited...

Have you tried launching in 2nd gear?

Have you done any timed 60-130s yet? Those numbers would be interesting to see.

I am sure it is a blast on the highway!

I think your foot is more of a traction control than the tires....imho. I've seen 500whp FWD street cars quite a bit.....

No I dont launch my car, its my daily driver and I dont beat the crap out of it. I accelerate hard in it but reving to 4k and dropping the clutch is something I stay away from, not trying to bust my axles all up.

I can boost in 2nd gear at light throttle and it pulls very hard without peeling the tires. Then 3rd gear its WOT....not slipping at all, unless I run over a hump or something on the freeway...other than that it sticks. I have some pretty good beefy tires....Also the ES subframe and motor mount bushings keep engine from jumping around lifting the wheels up which helps keep the power down. Also suspension had been modified including ES bushings in the control arms as well.....and my car is not slammed to the ground scraping either. Only dropped 1-1.5"

Have you done any timed 60-130s yet? Those numbers would be interesting to see.

No, but I have an acceleration vid on my youtube from about 60 - 110 so you be the judge. Didn't even really hit rev limit, backed of a little early and baby shifting.

I am sure it is a blast on the highway!

YES!!!!! I LUV IT!! This is what I built it for.....

OK, next year I believe I have the upgrade list:

1: Get steel re-enforced rubber hose and move the wastegate hose from the compressor side of the turbo and weld a nipple to the charge pipe and install there. Should make boost more consistent.

2: 3" DP

3: Water Injection installed. For my peace of mind and safety......

Should be able to take it to about 430whp with no problems with all the above mentioned parts. I personally know of several boosted 350zs running 450whp for years on their stock blocks. As long as you stay away from detonation (conservative tune, water injection, intercooler) then I believe I will be fine. Especially with my driving habits, because I dont beat the living crap out of the car. I like a little freeway fun and all but dont do launches, burnouts, brake boosting, 140mph on the highway and all that crap.

your foot acts as traction control because you're only using some of your power by feathering the throttle as opposed to mashing it to the floor, in which case you wouldn't have traction. that's why light all motor hondas can run pretty quick 1/4 miles...they can use all of their power without the same traction issues that come with a high powered FWD car.

Agreed.....because all motor Hondas have no torque compared to V6 engines. I like my torque AND hp together. I like that "being smashed into the seat" feeling. Im not trying to win any drag races anyway.....those all motor hondas can see me on the freeway!!!! LOL!!
