turbo oil return below oil level

i´ve noticed that turbo oil return level in a vq35de is below oil level in the oil pan, does anyone had a problem because of that?
for example getting oil in the exhaust side of the turbo?
i purchased a used holset hx35/40 and had this problem, but i don´t know if that was a turbo failure or my oil return is what is wrong.
someone told me that the holsets do this thing when the motor is running and the turbo doesn´t spin, this happens when the engine is under 900 rpm.

don't expect an answer in less than 3 hours dude...

chill

maybe you should be more specific with what answer you want.

Is it normal? search around and see. You bought it used, was it fully functional when you bought it? have you VERIFIED the functionality? Does it work at all?

i bought it used, never see it working,the main question is if all people do the oil return on the lower oil pan without any problems on turbo seals.

Generally, you want to route the oil return from the turbo to a point that is above the oil line. Doing it below the oil line may cause the oil to back up into the line. The oil return is all done by gravity. I've seen a few that have ran it below the oil line, but I'm not sure how reliable those setups have proven to be for long term.

Think of it this way;

Take a cup and poke a hole in the side close to the bottom. Then put a hose in it. Fill the cup with some liquid through the top till it passes the hole. Then try to put more liquid in there through the hose by just letting gravity take it's course. There is probably going to come a point where the pressure of the liquid inside the cup causes the liquid to back track up the hose. Of course, the cup is not an oil pan, but you get the concept.

Weather it's ok to do it the way you have it now or not, I would feel a lot better putting it above the oil line and not worrying about this issue at all.

I have it ran to the lower oil pan, no issues. So, Im pretty confident to say, it may be your turbo, as much as I know you wish to hear different. Here's a pic of mine...

You could run a restrictor if you are having issues with oil on the intake side. Pretty much if you have bad drainage it will smoke and blow oil. If you have ok drainage but still some oil or smoke try a restrictor. I run one for my MasterPower turbo.

No, when i´m in traffic going slow at idle for long time, then i push te pedal down, i see blue smoke , i think is the turbo.
when i´m at rpm above 2000 for some time i don´t see any smoke.

Does your return line sag at any point or is it a downward slope all the way to the pan. Pics would help
