balded = slicks?

Someone I overheard saying today that balded tires are similar to slicks used on tracks (not exactly the same, but similar properties due to less threading). Anyone know if this is true and to what extent whether it is or not?

Slickes are a super-sticky rubber compound. Bald tires are just bad.

street tires are a much harder compound than slicks, if you had balded tires you will get much more spin than if they had tread

Like they said. Even if you reduce tread along with a bit of weight, you still got a street tire underneath that's not made to grip.

I believe the actual tread of any tire is a different and better compound than what is left after it becomes bald. I know when my tires are near balding traction wet and dry decreases.
