Need Tire Help Asap please whats the difference between 215/55/16 and 215/50/16???

I have a 3rd gen and I just bought some 4th gen wheels. Everyone is telling me to put 215/55/16 tires on them. I dont really have any money and a friend of mine has a set of 215/50/16 tires that he's going to give me for free. Will they fit and what does the middle number stand for anyway.

What the numbers mean:

The tires will be okay, they will just be a little small and will throw off your speedo and make you seem like you're driving faster than you really are.

What about 235/45/17 on our stock 17" SE wheels. Stock size is 225/50/17. I still dont understand the numbers on that page, but I guess I'm half retarded.

Oh ok so the first number is the width so would a 225/55/16 fit. And what would be the pros and cons of getting a 225 instead of a 215

Wider tires are usually better (if for nothing else other than coolness factor) but hey, they're free tires. I'd just go for those even if they're a bit undersized. I hope they have a decent amount of tread left on them and he's not giving you baldies.

ok the first # means how wide the tire is : like a 195 is like thin, and a 295 is this as hell, like a corvett. the second # is how much side wall there is. like a 50 is fine for a 16' rim. and the last # is the size of the rim that you are putting the tirs on, so the 16 stands for the 16' rims your putting them on.

good luck, those tires will be fine and if your getting emm for free go for it.

i hope this helps.
