tire suggestion

I need tires and I was wondering if I should get two winter tires for the front and just keep the stock ones on the back? The ContiExtremeContact only come in 225/45/17 and I don't want a lower profile. I intend on getting all new tires and rims in 04' summer, and dont want to get four new all-season tires for an inssane amount of money. Dose anyone think this would be a good idea?

Hell yes its a good idea. Exactly what I did. I still have rear Potenza RE92 30K on the car. In good condition, btw. My fronts are brand new Sumitomo HTR+. Ride quality and feel is superior to the oem tires.

If you intend on getting a tire/combo set next year, no use in breaking the bank now for four new tires. Go with 2 Sumi HTR+ for $175 shipped, you will be happy.

Since the majority of winter accidents involve the back end swinging out (even in FWD cars) it is better to put the winters on the rear rather than the front.

For what it's worth....on cars equipped with ABS all 4 tires should be the same. I am a firm believer of this, especially in the winter. I love my 4 Blizzaks.

I wouldn't recommend mixing winter tires with all-seasons or summers, as the balance of the vehicle can really be upset. Get yourself dedicated winter steel rims and put on real winter tires.

ya, I wouldnt recommed putting on different tires. If you want traciton in the snow, just put on Blizzaks, you wont be dissapointed. they grab like crazy. and usin 2 of one and 2 of anohter, well thats almost like drivin on 2 tires. get two that grip great and two that do nothin... sounds like a problem huh?

Mixing tires on a car for winter = VERY bad idea, which gets worse when you factor in ABS. Just DON'T do it. Get a set of snows for winter and summer or all-season for the rest of the time and drive safely year-round.

I just put a set of Pirelli Winter 210 Snow Sports on my '01 AE. I haven't driven in snow yet, but the wet traction improvement over the OE Bridgestones in unbelievable.

Cheers,

Jaeger
