wheel spacers
I'm not too familiar with these, but I've seen a few ORG members with them. I'm not talking about the people you see driving around with wheels stuck out 6 inches from the car of course, just 5-10mm spacers on the rear for instance. Would this provide any noticable benefit to handling? Or just a waste of money? If nothing else, it seems like it would improve the look.

I think doing this purely for cosmetic reasons is pretty pointless and not very cost effective, and I don't think 10-20mm of extra track width is going to buy you any noticable handling improvement for the cost and complexity of installation (assuming you have to change the studs and you get good spacers and not the cheap ones with the bad reputation).
You'll probably get a bit more steering kickback because of the increased track, and you're adding more mechanical complexity to your car.
I'm not an expert on these things, but I've been reading about them a lot lately, and I personally would not use them for mainly cosmetic reasons and would only use them if I was dying for a certain set of wheels but they have too high an offset. I understand some race modified cars use very large spacers to increase the track width (or fit huge tires?), but those cars also have flared or cut fenders to accomodate this. I would save the money and put it towards something like a RSB, which is supposed to be one of the best bangs for your buck.
