Maximum tire pressure (psi) question...

Is there a way to determine exactly how much pressure to put into a tire compared to what the tire max psi can handle?

Example: If my tires has 51 psi as the max. What would be the ideal psi for these tires? mid 30's, high 40's?

To be honest, my current setting is in the high 40's, is this dangerous? What are advantages/disadvantages of running low psi versus high psi close to the max.

Thanks.

Use the factory recommended PSI. If you have upsized tires, add one pound per inch increase of wheel/tire.
