what problmes can this cause, if any?

You will turn your normally understeering FWD sedan into a oversteering dangerously unbalanced and unpredictable pendulum. Either 4 snows or nothing.

i did it last winter. i thought it was better than no snow tires at all, but i also didnt do a lot of driving. biggest prob i had was back end gets real fishy, kinda like a rear wheel drive.

I did it last winter with no problems. However,I would note that one member told me it was illegal in the state of Maine. If thats true, there must be something dangerous about it. Also, places like Tire Rack will questions you if you only want two winter tires...

I have snows in the front only and i think they work great. I don't know what you guys are talking about making it a pain...

I am not sure if it is leagle or not but here in Mass I don't think any shops will mount only two snow tires.

On dry/wet pavement you would have massive understeer and on snow you would have massive oversteer. If you were transitioning from snow to pavement your car wold be completely unpredictable. You never know when you are going to have to make an emergency manuver.

Just get 4 snows. Town fair tire mounts them for free if you by them there. Trade schools will mount and balance for a couple of dollars. You can usually find a good deal on snow tires on steel rims in the local want ads or the tires for sale forum here.
