I had the Toyo Proxes on my 2000 GXE (16") They were good dry handling tires but very poor in wet conditions and dangerous in snow(I live in Canada) Just my 2 cents..Surprisingly the 18" Goodyear RSA on my 2004 SE are reasonable in the snow.. I don;t think I will have to change them. PS The Toyos wore very quickly, also.

Actually the Toyo Proxes 4 are a brand new tire from Toyo. They have other "Proxes" variations, such as the FZ4, which is probably what johnsa had on his 2000.

I once owned a set of the older FZ4 on a '96 Ford Probe GT (much lighter and nimbler than my Max SE) and I loved them. Never had them in snow though.

Anyway, according to Toyo.com, the new Proxes 4 does not come in our 17" stock size of 225/50-17.

Falken Ziex 512s, for a V rated, and 30,000 mile treadlife warranty (but they're in short supply)

Falken S/T Z-01, H rated, 50,000 mile treadlife warranty.

Check out www.vulcantire.com for latest prices. NTB meet Vulcan's price, so I didn't have to worry about receiving the shipment, and I didn't get any chance to find out how Vulcan is to deal with.

The two tires are within $5 of each other, at about $105.
