Racing tire question

i picked up a couple used 15 inch tires and steel wheels to use on the front of my max at the track. I was wondering what would give me better traction, used tires that are worn (almost slicks), or new tires that are fairly sticky...
any help...thax

worn out tires are good for only one thing; burnout

Sticky tires will "stick" better to the track compared to bald tires w/out any tread left

racing slicks use different rubber compound. You are right about more surface area but not the same "stickyness"

Besides that, you'll probably be seeing belts poking out sooner trying to run "baldies" as slicks.
