Tire questions ...

Hey guys, I'm in the process of selling my wheels ( 17 x 7 ) TMW GTV, I'm thinking of buying HP Racing wheel. I want to put 18 x8 in front and 18 x 9 in the back, I like the idea of having wider wheel in the rear even though I dont have RWD, I like the look and to me the wider the better. As for the rubber should I go 235-40-18 in the front and 255 or 265 35-18 in the back ? Does anyone has a similar set-up? what do you guys think, thank you for input. ( no flame please )

cheers

i think you should go 265/40 in the rears, not 35. im thinking about that same setup too. wider gives you a larger contact patch so better handling.

Hi Mr****s95SE, when I've check with Kumho they didn't have the 265-40 they have the 265-35 so I guess I'll search another brand of rubber. Thanks for your input. Like you said more patch to the ground = better handling and braking too.

Cheers

I made some calculation, going 18 x8 in front and 18 x 9 in the rear, the tire size that is the nearest stock spec is:

18 x8 = 235-45-18
SideWall: 4.2
Radius: 13.2
Diameter: 26.3
Circumference: 82.8
Rev miles: 765 instead of 780
Diff: 1.9%

18 x 9= 265-40-18
SideWall: 4.2
Radius: 13.2
Diameter:26.5
Circumferance: 82.7
Rev miles: 766 instead of 780
Difference: 1.8%

It seem that going for 235-45-18 in front and 265-40-18 in the back is the closest match, going 235-40-18 in front would reduce the side wall to 3.8 and because the car is heavier in front so I'm thinking it would be best to keep 4.2 inches sidewall anyone with a similar set-up, what do you guys think.

Cheers
