Falken 512's for my 2K2 GLE

I was wondering if I could run 225/55 17 on my GLE as opposed to the stock 215/50 17 just because I want a softer ride. I am considering buying the Falken 512's based on consumer reports #1 ranking and also because they're pretty cheap. BTW I'm from Chicago and need a good all season tire.

I have a set of 512's in 225/50/17 on order from www.edgeracing.com for $95/ea. Check out this thread in the Group Deal section that I started for these tires. I spoke with a rep who said he would possibly be interested in setting up a group deal for us on these. I will be talking to him again today (Wed).

You dont need to get wider tires for softer ride.

I'm guessing that the 225/55 comes out to about the same diameter as the 215/50 and he's thinking that the additional sidewall height will give a softer ride.

I'm not sure it will matter that much .. without doing the math (it's too freaking early) i think the sidewall differnce will be about 1/4 inch or less.

And are you sure your stock size is 215/50 on the GLE? SE stock is 225/50

I would be interested in some 512's. They dont make a stock sized 215 55 r17, the next closest size is 225 50 r17. Which I have been told works alright.

Spoke with Edge Racing and my order has been shipped today. Unfortunately, I was unablel to speak with my salesperson Max as he was tied up with a few other customers. I will check with him tomorrow (Thursday) again about the possible GD. I will check on multiple tire sizes and pricing.

Are you positive that you've got 215 55s?

It just seems odd that the GLE would have a narrower, taller, tire than the SE.

Desperado is right! All of the 2002 & 2003 (not sure about 2000 & 2001) GLE models did come with the 215/55-17 tires. I think Nissan was thinking that the slightly higher profile tire on the GLE would provide a little smoother ride.

OK, I just have to admit I was surprised to see that size (and I don't have my Nissan brochure anymore)

Just to clear up any confusion on this, for the 225/50/17, Edge Racing has this tire priced at $95/ea. I called today, but my salesperson, Max whom I spoke to about the GD was off sick today. I will try again tomorrow. Sorry for all the delays.

-UPDATE-

Just spoke with Max at Edge Racing and unfortunately, he is not going to be able to offer a group deal for the Falken 512 at this time due to the fact that the shipment they received on Wednesday were all accounted for and there was actually more frieght charges involved which Edge had to pay just to get the number in for all the orders they have on this tire. Max did let me know that the price of $95/each for the 225/50/17 will be going up on Monday buy a matter of $3-5/each, but they are going to still sell up till Monday for the listed price on their webpage. So if you are interested in a set of these and want the best price I've seen, you should either call Max @ (800) 489-5353 ext. 203 and order set through him or try your luck online. If you do speak with him, let him know that you heard about this on Maxima.org and by me (Tim from Columbus, Ohio). Also, I did make him aware that there were around 12 guys interested and he said that he would possibly be able to do something in the future for us. If you guys would like, I can mark a date on my calendar in a month or so and check back with him. My tires should arrive on Feb 2nd and I'll have them installed shortly thereafter and give you my thoughts.

Again, thanks for the interest and let me know if you would like me to check back after a while.

-Tim
