Tires for 01 Maxima 17" wheels

I have an 01 Maxima SE with 17" factory rims on 225/50/17 tires. A year ago, I decided to go plus-zero and bought a set of four 235/45/17's - recommended by TireRack.com. I've had no problems with the tires for a year, but now that the 2 front tires have developed buldges on the sidewalls, I am looking to replace them.

I just talked to a number of people at TireRack and NOW they tell me different things. One guy said to get 235/50/17 as a plus-zero; another said that the stock Maxima 17 inch rim cannot fit a 235 size tire because the rim is only 7 inches wide, rather than 7.5.

Has anyone gone through this before? What size tires do you have on your Max?

He's right - 225 is all the wider you should go on the factory 17"s. Some on the org have ignored this rule and had no problems, but you have been warned.... BTW - You'll get more responses if you post this in the tire forum.

MaxVader, have you considered putting on 235/45/17 for a lower profile? Why did you go with a 50?

I've had no issues with my 235/435/17's, but both Tirerack and Tires.com tell me that it's "unsafe".

235/50 is within spec for a 7.0 inch wheel. ive got about 22k on my 235/50 michelin pilot a/s. i ran about 15k of them with stock wheels and now with 7.5. the 235/50 will be slighty taller and fill up a good amount of the stock wheel gap.
