225/50/17 for 235/45/17

Hey,
I have the Maxi 2002 SE with original rims.

Can I change the original equipment (tires with size 225/50/170) for 235/45/17?? I wonder if they are going to hit the indise of the fender when I cut the wheel hard into a parking place?

Has anyone done this before??

Your stock size was 225/50/17???
Mine was 215/55/17 - so it is alright to go with the larger 225/50/17

Year ?

What year is yours? is yours the SE model? mine 2002 SE with those 225. I already order 235 this morning, so if they dont fit, I'm screwed!

I called the dealer and they said the rule of thumb is one size up and you are on the clear. Since mine came with 225/50/17.. one size up is 235.. so I have 235/45/17 on the way.

When I put them on, I'll post if they did fit or not.

I have 235/45/17 on my SE right now. The original size was like yours - 225/50/17.

I've had no problems with the bigger size, but now that I am in the market for replacements, everyone is suggesting not to do it... becuase the rim is only 7" wide and the 235 rubber is made for 7.5" wheel. This includes the tire manufacturer (Michelin). So I am nt sure what to do next. Will probably go back to 225/50/17.

What brand tire did you order?

I ordered the Pirelli's Pzero Nero M&S 235/45/17. I didnt really think about contacting Pirelli to see what rim will fit the best on those tires.

I think I should be okay though with that size. Let's hope anyway I cant return them.
