Performance tire suggestions for 15 inch wheels?

I want to get some good performing tires. I don't want to buy new wheels, I'm just looking for tires to fit my 1996 SE 15 inchers.

One option is the Yokohama AVS dB S2's in 225/60/15. They are V-Rated High Performance All Seasons (ok for snow) and they got good reviews from Tirerack.com. They aren't the exact right size, but its close.

The other option is maybe Falken Ziex 512s in 215/60/15. They are NOT performance tires and are H-rated for the 60-65 series unlike the 55 and under series. People say good things about the 512s but I don't think this applies to the 60/65 series. I've heard go need to go V-rated or better to get good handling and launching grip from tires.

Anyone have opions? Yokohama Performance vs Regular Falkens? Any problems with putting 225s on 15 inch SE rims? Anyone know the snow performance for either tire?

Thanks

I have gone thru 2 sets of Yokohama Avid Touring on my 97 Altima. Those were the bes tires I've had. One set lasted 83k second one is still going at 75k. Very quiet, great in rain and snow, huge treadlife, great for cruising at 85mph on a highway. I put a lot of miles on the car and a 6hour drives are pretty nice in those.

Anyone else have Falkens in the 215/60/15 size? Does the 60/65 series perform as well as the lower profile series? How are they in snow?

I have never come across a performance tire that is also good in snow.

Those Falken 512's are in the same performance category as the AVS dB. You'll just have to make up your mind about them, but all the reviews I've seen for them are positive so far.

If I were you I'd look into getting some hardcore summer only performance tires and a cheap set of winter tires on steel wheels. That will give you the best grip year round.

I came across this ad and was wondering about the sizes that the stock tires come in. Do you know if these would be an appropriate size for my stock 15" sawblades?
I'd go check my tires but it's raining like a S.O.B. and it's dark!
Thanks for your help,
Matt

Toyo Proxes T1-S

PDM Racing has brought in these awesome tires at an unbelieveably low price, making this the ultimate best bang for the buck this winter! The Toyo Proxes T1-S is the one of the best ultra-highgrip tires you can buy for your car. The light weight design of the T1-S tire translates into less rotational mass, which enables your car to get more power to the ground instead of it being lost in moving heavy tires. The T1-S also has unidirectional tread design with slanted main grooves for superior water drainage results in excellent wet and dry grip and resistance to aquaplaning. You can't get much better than the T1-S for ultimate wet weather handling at this special price.

Toyo Proxes T1-S 195/50R15 - $78.00 each

WhiskeyJack, 195/50/15 would not be a good fit. If you have 15" wheels you'll need either 205/65/15 or 215/60/15.

I'm now looking into getting some 16 inch wheels so I can put summer tires on those and keep the all seasons on my 15".

For summer tires I'm considering Falkens (either 512 or FK451), Kumho Ecsta 712, or Nitto NT-555.
