lowering the max with tires

The stock sizes are either 215/55/16 or 225/50/17. Now, if I use 225/45/17 in place of 225/50/17, I'd see an effective drop of .4 inches or so. Or use 235/40/17s. Anyone see anything wrong with that besides throwing off the speedo a little?

Why would I wanna do this? I don't wanna drop the car by getting after-market springs since that would put me into a different class in autox. Plus I could further lower the car using springs in the future.

Please don't do this to yourself. You can get away with lowering your car this way, but the wheel gap is gonna get worse.
