18x8.5 wheels on the max
I just ordered EVO-5's from discount tire. They ordered 18 x 8.5 wheels. I told him that ppl run 18x7.5, but he said they would be fine...
What do you guys think?
Also is $190 per wheel a good price?
thx

I have a set of 18x8.5 BBS's w/+40 offset and 245/40/18's. The rear right scrapes. I shaved the inside of the fender to remedy the problem. I am sitting on Illuminas & Eibachs. It's funny that the left side cleared and I had a prob w/the right. Nissan Quality!
I was told that theyy would not rub with the 235 and that BBS couldn't guarantee that the 245 would fit.
I wanted to get as close to the stock diameter as possible so I went with the 245. I suggest that you do the same, especially if you have an auto. Also, watch your offsets.
Stock 17" wheel diameter = 25.86
235/40/18 wheel diameter = 25.4
245/40/18 wheel diameter = 25.72

I had 245/45/17's on her after the OEM's. it caused horrible torque steer. now i am running on 225/55/17. The ride is comfy and it helped with the wheel gap. i am going to lower her next week....
I almost got the EVO-S in 17", cause the roads here suck. The OEM front wheels have been bent before due to pot holes, and my bro's crazy ar$e driving. He can rent a car when he is town from now on...

I used a dremel and a cutting bit. Its a little squirrely and you have to have a steady hand. Use a sharpie to mark the line that you want to cut as this will provide guidance.
However, if you want to go the easy route, I know of this tire shop that uses a mini sawzall with a metal cutting blade and it works like a charm, a whole lot better than my dremel. It makes for an even cut. Get yourself one of these saws andgo to work.
Do you scrape and on what side?

and it was ONLY the back right rear too..
and im only running 17x8 with a 35 offset
i thought the guy who put on my wheels/tires screwed up or something because the right side DEFLY comes out further than the left side..
theres no other fix than to shave it huh?

Your 17x8 is w/+35 is at the same point as my 18x8.5's are w/+40. You must be running a 245 on that wheel. I hear that it won't rub if you use a 235. In fact a 245 is a bit wide for that rim if that is what you are using. I used to toss 245's on my 5.0 when it had 8 inch wide wheels and really never had any problems. I was just told that the 245 is even a bit wide even for an 8.5 inch wide wheel.
However, I wouldn't go down to a 235 because the diameter is too small compared to the 17" wheels stock diameter.
[B]Just cut the fender with a dremel or a little electric saw, which actually works alot better than the dremel. I don't suggest rolling the fender.
By the way, perfect offset. You're at the limit for an 8" wheel. Toss a pic up.

i am manual..used to be auto..had a 5 spd. conversion. manual is much faster than auto imo.
stock wheels i had a long time ago..then i switched to heavy 18s with hi perf tires..now i have the sumitomos and the 17s..i like the setup i have now the most..the enkeis are like 17 lbs each..save some weight also..just the rubbing is pi$$ing me off..

It's really no problem. I would go with the saw as it is easier. I used a dremel and a really steady hand. If I had to do it over I would have used the saw, like they do down here at Wheel Warehouse (Anaheim, CA). They charge $25 per well.

I used my 4.5" grinder to smooth out the seam-back to the bolt, and then put undercoat on the ground area. The tire actually rubs on the plastic bumper material. Look close where its rubbing, you'll see what I'm talking about. By the way, I'm running Volk 18x8.5, +40 offset, with 255/40/18 Pilot Sport A/S., with Eibach-I have no fender gap in the rear. Top of tires are even with the fender lip. Mine does not rub now, even with two adults in the back seat and the trunk full of luggage.

The wheel and tire setup on your car is insane. Can you post a pic of the rear with the 265's? What is the offset of your wheels. I think that I want to switch back to 17's from my 18x8.5's. How much does the car wander with the wide tires and are there any drawbacks. I know that it will probably be a bit slower than say a 245 tire, due to the fact that there is now more friction.
