getting new tires for stock steelies
Since learning to launch my car with these heavy a$$ 18"s is almost impossible, I decided to get a pair of good tires for my stock steel 15" wheels (for track use). So far my best choice is BFG g-Force T/A Drag Radial. The size is 225/50-15. If I'm not mistaken, original tire size for 5th gen steel wheels is 205/60-15.
Well, my question is how wide are stock steels? I believe they are 6" wide, but I want to make sure I'm not wrong before I get them. Also, if you have any other tire suggestions, I'll only be glad to hear them.

I thought that all 5th gens had 16" rims stock. I could be wrong, though. All of the OEM steelies that I know of are 6" wide. Stock tire size on the 4th gen 15" steelies were 205-60-15, and the SEs had 215-60-15. A 225-50-15 will be fairly small (profile) and will have a tough time airing up on a 6" rims. Check the recommended wheel widths before ordering that tire.
You might want to look for a pair of wider rims on eBay. You can get 15" millenia rims or some OEM BBS for less than $100.
EDIT- Tirerack lists that the OEM size was 205-65-15, so I was wrong on both counts. Also, while the BFG Drag in 225-50-15 CAN fit on a 6" rim, you will wear out your center ridge quickly because the tire will be pinched at the sides.

Stocks are all 16''
hope this helps
thanks for your replies guys. I believe the best thing to do right would be getting some light weight wheels (Millenia's for example, as phenryiv1 suggested) and some good street tires for them.
FusionAcid, my 2000 GXE originally came with 15" steel wheels with hub caps. Other models have alloy wheels.

The rims I am getting (from a Q45t) are 15 x 7" and 13 lb. as well.
There are always pairs of rims on eBay for fairly cheap. I saw a whole set of 4 of the infiniti I30t rims that did not sell, but the price was only $100. The guy just had a really poorly written ad- you had to knw what you were looking for.

I usually use a sample size of 18x18x18 inches for 2 rims (with cardboard between them) and then estiamte the weight. Here you are looking at about 30 lb for the pair. You can calcualte the exact costs with those dimensions if you go to the fedex or ups websites.
