Where you install 2 new tires? front/rear?

I just bought 2 new tires for my MAX, Bridgestone Potenza 950 and the guys at Costco said that they install 2 new tires only on rear wheels.

Is there a rule? How would you install them? Front or rear. Does anyone have a problem with new tires in front? (vibration, pulling on a side...)?

I know it is recommended to get 4 of them, but I cannot afford it right now, plus the other ones are like 6 months old.

Thanks.

I read an interesting tire article in Automobile magazine today. And yep, that's what they said. It's much easier to control accidental understeer than oversteer.

Correct; other shops do the same thing or at least recommend you put them on the back.
