TIRES: thinking about FALKEN ZE-512. any input?

Friend has an 01 GXE with 16x6.5 OEM SE wheels and OEM Toyo Proxies. The Toyo's squeel really easy around normal corners, and she's not driving like she stole the car or anything.

Thinking of buying Falken ZE-512 from the local shop for $400 installed (her price range is less than $500 installed).

I read reviews about the tire and mostly saw good input.

Are there any threads on the org relating to these tires or anyone have them and want to share some input about them?

Thanks in advance.

I got these tires a few weekends back for my 17" wheels. Nice, quiet, comfortable tires. Grip seems to be pretty good. These are actually very highly rated tires for the price.

I would recommend them.

Peace.

Got mine installed last Sat. So far so good.

Feel great on highway. Pretty Quiet, but not as quiet as the Potenzas. Not much louder either. So far worth every penny. Side walls seema bit softer, absorbs road impacts alot better, but you can feel a diff. in the corners. But not drastic. Good trade offs. And they Track well.

Can't wait for rain to try them in, but I can wait for the snow. hehe.

So far I am VERY PLEASED!

I just put these tires on my car. So far, so good. I have only had them on there for 500 miles so it's tough to say. BUt they were a pretty good deal.

The only con I've heard is that the sidewalls are on the soft side for the larger sidewalls sizes.

Shoot. I looked for a "tires" forum on the org and couldn't find it. I didn't look hard enough.

Ok, thanks for the responses...I'll go surf the tire section a bit too, but I think i'll tell her to get them based on the positive input.

Cheers!

Whatever you do, stay away from the ST-115 tires. absolute crap.

those were denied warranty coverage, with less than 2000 miles on them.

What stores carry this tire? I need to replace the OEM tire this summer or else end up crashing my car this winter. I'm taking a look at the Falken's but don't know where I can find them.

I went to America's Tire today in San Jose, Ca. I was quoted $400.16 installed.

You can check out tires.com for both internet pricing or walk in stores in your area.

I just spent some time on the "tires" forum on this org and there was virtually nothing bad to say about these tires. With the soft side walls in harder cornering, several guys use higher inflation PSI than recommended and they say it helps a lot. Something to experiment with if not happy with the sidewalls depending on how you drive (but keep an eye on treadwear patterns!).

good luck.

I have had them for about 4k mi now and let me tell you... a damn good tire for the price. THey are awesome in the rain. They feel sure footed even at 70mph through standing water. The dry straight line traction doesnt seem to be too much better than the potenzas at 35psi but when aired down a bit you do notice a decent difference. I kinda wish I had payed a little bit more for the Pirelli P-zero Nero M+S but I can tell you that I am very satisfied with this budget friendly performance tire.

I just put my 512's on y esterday and they seem to be a good riding tire not as quiet as I would like but I think that is more of a Max design then a tire problem. Overall they seem to hold the road pretty good and at a good price. Had to go to a 225-50-17 instead of the 215-55-17 due to not alot of tire selections in that size but happy with the tire

I saw the Falkans at Sears (of all places) this weekend. You might check out their prices.

When I checked with sears they wanted 128 a tire but they do have price match but they tried to get out of it so I didn't even want to deal with them when I could get the tires at the same price anyway.

Depends on where you live. I just happen to have a Discount Tire/America's Tire store within 30 miles from me ($112/tire mounted), and Sears actually matched the internet price ($106/tire only). They usually only will give price breaks vs. local competition and won't match www prices.

I would have gone with Discount Tires (they have excellent customer service) but I am moving soon to a state where they don't have any locations, and I wanted the benefit of lifetime road-hazard and balance/rotation.

BTW, my local Sears had them for $114, but that was only for the tire itself.

Sears matched online prices minus 10% even. Gotem for just over $90 each. Sears is cool like that.

See the sears here tried to get me and said they match 10% of the difference which was only 2 bucks a tire. They were trying to find a way to get out of it and i don't pay money to people who don't want to just do what they are suppose to do. Took it elsewhere and yeah i lost 8 bucks

I talked to two differnt sears one said they couldn't offer the price match to internet sales and the other wouldn't call me back after I told them the price of the tires online and when I keep calling back they would put me on hold then say they would call me back when they checked the status of the tires and wouldn't. I didn't have the time or want to waste money on people like that. I am just sure I picked the wrong sears and the others might be fine. I am sure I could have got it but for what to save 8 bucks

Wow, there are some lucky owners out there (more power to ya!). Sears' policy is to give 10% of the price DIFFERENCE (which like 02GLEMax said, is pretty miniscule), not 10% of the TOTAL price...

But, hey, I wouldn't argue with the dumb*** sales guy if he wanted to give me an extra $12/per tire less than the competitor quote!
