I am having the WORST luck getting rid of my Potenzas. ARGH!

Ok. So it all started about a month ago. I was downright fed up with the Potenzas, I couldn't take it anymore. They suck so much c**k on rain that I'm scared to drive faster than 40 on the highways. They always slip when I'm accelerating towards a hill and they've lost a lot of trear too. My first choice for a new set was Bridgestone's Turanza series, which has received incredible praise.

I went down to a tire shop where my brother had his Dunlop runflats installed onto his SC430. I talked to the guys and asked them if they could get me a set of Turanzas in my size. The guy told me he can, but I'd have to come back the next day, because his warehouse is closed. So I came back next morning before arriving to work. I come up to him and tell him again what tire I needed. The guy tells me it'll be $700 for the set. He runs off to his warehouse, which is just a few blocks away, and returns with the tires. As he's rolling his tires out of his car...I notice the tread pattern looks familiar. I stop one tire and notice it says "Potenza". I told him "no, no, no! I don't want Potenzas. I said I wanted Turanzas. I don't want this original equipment crap." And he tells me "There's no such tire as Turanza..." so I started arguing with him and he calls up his warehouse and they tell him it's out on backorder for 3 weeks. So he returns my $700, they put my tires back on (they began to take them off) and I left.

Then, I started looking around online and OnlineTires.com said they had Turanzas in stock. So I quickly jumped on them and made my order. It was 3 days and I didn't get any confirmatione mail of shipment. So I calld them...and the guy tells me they're on backorder. (ARGH!!!) So I told him to cancel my order. Back to looking around I go...I began calling other tire companies that had websites that said they had Turanzas in stock -- surprise, surprise -- none of them had them.

Sooo, I figured, forget it already, I'll settle for Falken Ziex 512s. Last Thursday, I went to Vulcan tire, ordered my Falkens and let out a sigh of relief. But if you think that's the end, well...I just got an email from Vulcan tires and guess what, guys? The Falken Ziex 512s are backordered too!

WOOOPPEEE!

In other news: I got my Tokico Blues today. The Maxspeeds will be here on Wed.

Do NOT get Turanzas. They are only slightly better than the Potenzas. The Turanzas come as original equipment on the GLE. I have only 36k miles and an in desperate need of new tires. There is tread left, but they are dangerous on snow and rain.
Go to Tirerack.com and look at the tire surveys and reviews they have. I would recommend the Continental ContiExtreme Contact. They are rated all most as good as the Michelin Pilots, but only cost around $100 per tire. You are lucky you have an SE. The tire sizes that will work on the GLE rims are very limited. I cannot get the Continentals (or many other tires) in the size I need.

direct tire say they have Falken in stock on the site.

why not try Michelin's pilot A/S they are only 100 dollars more than Turanzas . some time Ebay sell them new for $700-600 shipped

Get the Falkens in 235/45/17. I've been running that size for about 3 months now. No problems at all.

I have the falkens in 235/45/17 too....my second set. The first set were OEM size 225/50/17, but those seem to always be on backorder. I was very happy with the first set - which is why I got another set of them. Only thing is I wish I had stuck with the 225's....the handling is not as good with the 235's (though the grip on accelleration is better...)

RE-92s are the Donuts-of-Death!

I think they are more dangerous than Corvairs!

Whoever had the brilliant idea to put them as OEM on our car needs a serious head-check! Hell, the new Tiburon gets Michelin Pilots! Not even the A/S, the full blown Pilot!

Turanza is a great tire. But there are a few different variations, the LS-H, LS-T, and LS-V. For the max I would either go with the LS-T or LS-V.

I bought the Falken's about two months ago and had a problem with balancing but once I got that issue resolved they seem to be a great overrall tire. Can tell a huge difference in wet weather over the Turanzas that were on the car.

512's are on a 5-6 month backorder according to discount tire. I got what was probably the last set the had on the east coast. The guy had to call about a dozen stores to find some. It was nice that he did that instead of telling me tuff-luck.

I had ordered the 512s but as everyone has already said, they're backordered everywhere on the planet. I have a set of Toyo Proxes 4 coming in today or tomorrow and I'll post a review on them as soon as I've driven a while.

I went from worn-out Bridgestone Potenzas to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 235/45-17... let's just say I'm buying Michelins again (but in a different size) if I can afford them again

You have no idea what you are talking about....

There are many versions of the Turanzas, the ones I have are the Turanza LS-Vs which are also on the TireRack web site as one of the best rated tires in their surveys

The LS-Vs are nearly equal to the Pilot A/Ss in handling capabilities and much softer and quieter than the Pilots, I know because I had Pilots and took them off because I could not stand the noise & harsh ride & replaced them with the LS-Vs

Do your homework before you post bad data

I had a set of Potenzas and almost distroyed myself and my max several times. They were decent when they were brand new but became death traps in the snow or rain. In a non icy cold snow I would let the clutch out without touching the gas and they would just spin. I pulled off a 180 on the highway in the rain when I hydroplaned going like 40. I just got the BFG traction T/As and I can tell a huge difference I dont know how they will wear but at lease I feel safe. I went with the 235/45/17s and they look great.
