Any experience with Falken Ziex 512 Tires?

I need to replace all four tires ony my 95 Maxima SE (60K mikes). Looking at Falken Ziex 512 all season. Anybody have any experience with these or have other suggestions. I live in the Northeast and experience moderate winter conditions.

This is probably gonna be moved to the tires and wheels section, which there is also a flaken ziex 512 review as a sticky.

But anyway I just purchased 4 (215/60/r15) and mounted them 2 days ago. So far they seem great. Much more dry traction on the road than my old tires (pep boy futuras). Havent experienced them in the rain or snow yet.

I did a lot of reading on tires when I was going to pick mine out, and 512s are very good tires. Not the best, but they don't cost $250/tire, either.

Get them...you'll do well.

Ziex 512

Consumer Reports rated them #1. I bought 4 225/55/16 tires from www.discounttiredirect.com at 62K, went from 225/60/15 Firestone SH30's and it was a big improvement in ride quality, even though I went from 15 to 16. I had liked the SH30's so much that when they were discontinued, I bought 4 more for future use.

The Firestones replaced Dunlop D60A2's which were a BIG improvement over the stock Yokohamas and the Firestones were an improvement over the Dunlops (which were also rated #1 by CR 5 years ago. I think you'll be happy with them, I am.

THey were rated #1 as stated by chipobrien, but that Aside...I love them on my car. Some complain about the softer side wall, but to me it improves the ride of the car. I am lowered on H&Rs and I think these tires give me a more stock feeling ride. Most don't even know my car is lowered from the ride. Wet traction could be better, but all in all a great tire. Nice traction

Are recent purchasers of the Falken 512s still having balancing issues? This is the only thing keeping me from getting them. I plan on purchasing them in the OEM size of 225/50-17.

Thanks.....

After going from the stock 16" tires and SE rims to 17x8s I noticed how much noisier they were and that they follow ruts in the road. In the wet it didn't inspire total confidence in me. I'm going to try out a different brand once these are finished.

I'm very pleased with them. No issues with balancing or wobble. They roll fine. They were much more quiet than the sotck Blowtenza's they replaced. The wet traction is very good, IMO. The sidewalls are a bit soft, but that would only be an issue for me if I were doing a lot of racing. You can increase the pressure a bit and that makes them flex a bit less.

From what other orgers have said, they are pretty good in the snow, too. So in addition to having them on my 18's, I'm thinking about getting some 17's on my stock rims for the winter.

If you got the money, get the Michelin Pilot A/S but if you don't want to spend almost a grand on tires, get the 512s. They are excellent tires.

I too read these forums back and forth for months before deciding on the 512's. I also know a person that had these put on his his 5th gen max this year and raved about them. I had them installed yesterday at Sears. I actually bought them from Sears last week and they had them in stock, but I waited until we got past our first little snow storm the next day to put them on. This was based on all of the feedback here about pressure adjustments, balancing issues etc. I didn't want to "test" them in 4" slush and ice.

Sears price matched my Discount Tire screen print of $106/tire and shipping is free so they didn't whack me for that either. Sears also gave me their 10% difference discount over their $120 something price they were charging. They ended up around $104/tire. Sears did the alignment on the Hunter machine which is highly recommended here in the forum. The techs frowned a bit when I said that I wanted my PSI above the Sears recommended 29PSI all around. I asked for 37 front and 32 rear. I figured that I could work back from here, but various threads in the Tire forum ran from 35-37 front and almost all had 32 rear. So far, 50 miles or so and the tires feel nice. Yes, the side walls feel soft. There is a bit more play in the steering wheel and bricking the tire out with the added pressure helps a bit. They sound great (less noise). No pull on the highway however a bit more to the right on a crowned street. I attribute this to the softer walls. They have a little more drift if you back off the steering wheel.

Based on the weather forecast it'll be a week before they see wet, but I am looking forward to trying them. My Potenza OEM's had 4/32 on the rear and 3/32 on the front at turn in with 52,000 miles. My rain driving was down to the 55MPH range and no higher on these in the last few weeks. I tried to time the change well and I think I did. BTW - I am on a stock 20th Anniv Edition so I am running 225/50/17 V rated.

Hope this helps and I'll report back as I get more miles under my belt on them.

My car is a lease that's up in March of 2006 - spending the least amount, but at the same time not getting total crap, is the big plan. I won't be putting more than 20k more miles on this car and I'll be driving it through two more winters and these RE92s are a total joke, as all of you already know.

If I was keeping the car (and I'm definitely not) I'd probably get the Turanza LS-V.

And Chad - thanks for the detailed info.

I've got around 1000 miles on mine (2k2 OEM size). So far I'm pretty pleased. Haven't worked them very hard yet (but I generally don't much any more). Noise initially seemed louder that OEM, but now seems a bit quieter. Haven't driven in rain too much, but they seem much better. Not floating on the water like I was on the Potenzas. I do notice that on roads with the anti skid grooves that I seem to follow the grooves more and it gives it a bit of a "wiggle" affect, but not too bad. Overall, pleased with them. I am running 38 and 32 lbs.
