Q? for those experienced with tires

I have a 2002 Max SE and stock wheels.

It will soon be time to replace the original tires and i was thinking about getting the stock size but maybe getting a tire that is slightly beefier than the stock. Meaning i want it to be a little wider than the rims. I live in NYC and there is tons of tight parking. Im thinking about this for the protection of the rims.

Any comments ? and please add your opinion for the best all seasons with the tightest ride.
Thanks!!!

i thought you suppose to have more narrow tire during the winter time?
remeber if you go with a "beefier" tire you will casue your speed reading to be off if you dont do it correctly

What he means is like the debate with 17x7in rims...
people say its unsafe to have 235/45 tires because they are a half inch too wide and they kind of bulge out, they dont sit flush with the rim.

Just stick w/ 225/50/17s. Plenty of protection for your wheels w/ 50 series.

Although wider looks better, and I usually recommend it, you gotta stay within specs. When I ran 245 on an 8" wide rim, the sidewall did rollover in hard cornering...
