Speedometer Off?

Would installing 19" rims and tires throw off the speedometer of my 1999 I30? I've heard some people say yes and others disagreed so I'm just curious if anyone would know the answer.
Thanks.

only getting the right size of tire will prevent that from being altered. The key is to preserve the original wheel/ tire diameter. If you got 19s, you would have to get rubber with a much smaller side wall in order to compensate for the extra 4'' in diameter coming from the wheel. Some people try to get big rims AND large side wall tires to close up wheel gap instead of lowering the car, and this is where **** gets screwed up.

there are speedo calibrators that can be used but are very rare only certain places have them. by the way the consult II has a speedo calibrator.

Sorry guys, our cars are designed specifically for the stock OEM tire size and wheel. Change in any of those sizes, they WILL change speedo. Either you will be traveling faster at speeds or be going slower at speeds. Depending on if you get smaller wheels + tire combo or larger wheels + tire combo. Same also depends on if you tires are full deflated or inflated. Wheels + tire combo effects speedo more but come on you will rarely notice the difference, but if you want to get technical, it DOES change your speedo even if it's a .decimal of a mph or more.

I believe they are talking about any meaningful changes in the speedo.

If you go with the correct size tire, you shouldent have any problems with your speedo being less acurate than with the stock wheels and tires.

If you get a 19" wheel I think the correct tire is a 235/35/19, but dont quote me on that (it depends on width as well). I have a tire calculator on my computer (not on in right now), so if you cant find one I could figure out the exact size you would need.

How wide are the wheels you want to get?
