Good Tires for the Winter

Hey whats up guys.

I'm in the market to get some new winter wheels for my stock wheels, chromes are coming off next week and i was wondering what tires u might recommend getting.

So far it looks like Falken Ziex Ze-512, 235/45R17
not bad for 90 bucks a tire.

anything else u might want to recommend?
thanks

Conti COntact Extremes

I seem to remember reading alot of positive feedback last year on the Conti-Contact Extremes, both here and on tirerack. A bit more $$$, but still reasonable at about $120.

I don't run these, but that's just my 2c.

I recommended the Falken's to my buddy on his 98' SE, and he liked them - but I have a hard time believing those would be all that great in the snow/ice.
I could be wrong, since I have no personal experience with them.

If it was me, I'd get a second set - depending where you live and how much snow you get. Get some sic 18 or 19's and relegate the 17's to winter duty!

"I'm Donald Trump, and I have money to burn"....!

good luck.

I'm on the Ecstas too, only on 17" stockers - 235/45.

10k so far, and looks like I'll get at least 20k solid miles.
Just starting to get a lil' noisy, but not bad.
Good grip, and great bang for the buck!
I did EXTENSIVE research on tires b-4 I bought these.

So, I take it you're going to mount-up those 17's?
That's the way to do it if you live in the snowbelt!

Looks like you haven't dropped yet -- probably not a great idea in NYC!

good luck this winter - I don't envy you.

The Falkens are fine in the winter. They are no snow tire, but by far the best all-season tire I've ever used in the snow and ice. They are excellent in deeper snow, and "decent" on hardpack and icier stuff....Put alot of miles on my first set in the W.Va. mountains during snowstorms last year...no problems.....If you're not getting dedicated snow tires (Dunlop Wintersport M2 or M3 would be my suggestion if so), then the Falken 512s are a good tire and a good price for the winter.

IBTM, by the way

If your looking to buy snow tires tire rack has some great suggestions, but at the same point in time if you are looking to get all season tires then go with the falkens i dont think you will be disappointed.

I think the smartest thing to do if you run summer tires and want something for the winter is to get actual winter tires with the mountain and snowflake logo, especially if you're headed towards the "worst winter ever". Heck, I've bought winters and I live in temperate Vancouver. I think you should get the best tire for the worst conditions that you MIGHT encounter. Even if it doesn't snow, a true winter tire will work better in ice and frost than an all-season.

Get something H or V rated (lots of choices), or something like the Nokian WR (what I got) and they should last longer and preserve better handling too. They're not going to be as responsive in clear weather as performance all-seasons, but when it counts the most, you'll be equipped and ready.

JMHO.

Yea, going with winter tires is the right choice but i think im selling my rims and not sure when im getting new ones (summer wheels). So the right thing would be to get all season, but then again winter tires are best.

thanks for the input, very appericated.
