Torque Specs for Lugs???

Planning on giving the rims a good cleaning. Anyone know what the final torque specification for the lug nuts is? Just got a torque wrench for x-mas. Thanks.

Don't know about the 2k2, but the 2k1's are 80 ft-lb. Check your owners manual.

75-80 lbs, 150 is way overkill... only do that if you have a compressor and impact gun at all times !!!

i dont think overkill will hurt the car.. at most it may strip a lug nut or something...

Thanks, I'm at work right now but will check the owners Manual later. I'm guessing the factory specs would apply to the aftermarket.

You are almost doubling what's recommended.

I can think of two things: "cross treads" and, worst case, "broken studs" and your wheels may still fall off.

Yes, it applies to aftermarket wheels as well. Torque specs have more to do with the hardware (nuts, studs) than the car or wheel. You will generally find similar lug setups have similar torque specs.

Do not torque the nuts to 150 ft-lbs. Way too much and unnecessary. You might not damage anything, but to me it seems like it would put too much pre-load on them, which could be a bad thing. Also, unless you carry a large pipe around with you you're stuck if you have a flat. They are NOT going to fall off at 80 ft-lbs as long as you're doing it correctly.

Sure they won't fall off. You will just never be able to get them off if you get a flat. Or it will warp your rotors from overtorquing.

Tek-Niq, heed the advice of everybody else. Here's what happens when you overtorque any bolt that much.

In my 4 years of performance driving I've NEVER had a lugnut come loose that was tightened to 80-90lbs. And that includes about 2500+ nuts I've torqued. (Geez, is that right. No wonder I have no time for anything)
