Is 35 the wrong offset for a 4th gen?

I went to buy tires today and i told the guy i ahve 35mm offset rims and he said i will rubb if i go bigger than 225??

I thought a 35 offset is further from the hub and sticks out more, he said 40 is stock and if i want the rims to stick out more i will have to buy 42-45mm rims or spacers?

Is this guy an idiot or did i miss understand?

i went on the tire rack site but the info didnt help me either?

Keep in mind this is town fair tire so they can be wrong, and i didnt buy any tires either cause he got me worried...

and according to the sticky offset calculator, im right?!!??

+45 is stock offset for 16" SE wheels.

+35 should be fine. Might even eliminate the slight rubbing on the passenger side tire on full left lock.

+40.

May get spacers for the rear. Tucked in enough to bother me.

but doesn't it matter what rim width you have as well. Correct me if im wrong but 35mm on 8" wide is different than 35mm on 7.5" wide. I just bought 18x8 in 35mm with 235 tires, will they stick out or sit flush? Thanks

+35 shouldnt have an issue. I run +35 8" wide wheel with 235s on my 3rd gen just fine.

I heat cycle the "R" compounds for my Z on the Max.... 17x9 +34 with a 255/40/17 they stuck out just a few mm...... as far as offset to wheel width MAXecutive is correct it is related.... think about it this way.... 8" wheel with 0 offset would have 4" out from the hub and 4" in from the hub (not counting diff from the mounting pad of the wheel) since 25mm is aprox 1 inch if you had a +25 3" would be in front of the hub and 5" would be behind the hub..... a -25 would be reversed 5" in front and 3" behind... the offset is always from the center of the wheel.... so while the offset stays the same the wheel moves around it due to width
