whats best size/brand tire to put on 17" stock

i have summer 18" but i put stock 16" on in the cold months but have just bought 17' stock for obvious ooglie 16' appearence! i am also installing entire stillen kit in spring so i am concerned not to go too low profile with 17'.don't want to scrape kit on ground or ice. also if i go on a trip i change to 16 because if i have 2 or more people in back 18 have rubbing issue so a good 17' tire thats not too low and good in bad wheather. Any suggestions guys?

You trying to get the guy killed? lol.

1. Won't fit.

2. Even if they did, they would slip off the rims if the tires were put under lateral strain.

3. Tires TOO wide can actually cause loss of traction in wet situations.

For my next set of tires (I have the stock 17'' wheels), I'm going to try the Avon Tech M500 tires in 225/50/17. This is the OEM tire size for the 17'' rims. 235 would also fit, but 245 is pushing it. You could probably get them to fit, but our stock rims aren't the widest in the world, so I wouldn't recommend 245s.

That's the tire I'm talking about. Most of the reviews are favorable, and you can't argue with the price. Pretty much everybody who has used it likes the tire, and the few who have complaints are trying to compare the Avons to Bridgestone S03s and other expensive tires that are in a much higher price class. For me, the Avons will be replacing Nitto NT450s. The Nittos aren't bad tires, but they're definitely overrated. I wouldn't buy another set.

Oh, I know you weren't serious (that's why I put the little yellow smiley dude in there). I just didn't want some noob browsing through the forums to see the post and take it seriously.

yes i knew it was impossible to put those 275/65/17 on, but i'm new to the org and basically just sit back and read what you guys post. a couple of times i've read you guys really go off on eachother so i figured i'd just accept the ridiculous tire size as seriuos and ans. politely to it, but thanks to those who did respond to it in case i was an idiot who did'nt know better. It's good to know there are some out there who look out for others.

What size are on are the stock potenzas on the 01 AE? Looking to replace my tires this summer and would like to keep them the same size. Thanks.

P.S. No I wasn't planning on buying another set of potenzas.

You should keep the same overall diamter the same as stock to keep speedometer readings accurate, so stay away of anything lower than a 235/45-17

They shouldn't have a rubbing issue if you used the same height, so no matter what wheel diamter you used, unless you used the correct tire size to correspnd to the wheel size to keep the same heighth, you should be okay with rubbing issues as I sated in my first sentence. Unless you're using wider than normal wheels with the 18's.

check the FAQ's to see for the size debate on 235/45, I would go with those. 215/55 will work too.

Yes, tehy're horrible in any wet weather situation.

The Kuhmos that come in that size are good alls eason, but people complain about the sidewall being too soft.

ive been looking at tires for about 2 weeks now, wieghing all the options to see what i think would be the best ones. personally, after having toyo proxies, nittos, and i just drove home on a set of rs'a, im planning on going with the falken st115's . there considered a luxury sport tire, the side wall has rim proctection, im told its a little softer than nitto's , and its also suppose to be the most quiet tire in its class. for the price, i think they are well worth it. im also getting new rims, havent decided yet if i want another set of 18's or 17's.. if i go with 17, i will be getting 235/45/17's . seems to be the best mixture.

I'm running Nitto NT450s right now. They're not bad tires, but for the price, I think there are better ones out there. I probably won't be buying another set of Nittos. I've never tried the NT555s, but they cost even more than the NT450s, so I just want to try another brand.

need tires also

I have read reviews on all the different tires manufacturers. Nitto, Falken, BF Goodrich, Cooper, Hankook, Federal, Kumho, Yokahama... You name it, I have read the reviews. I run Nitto NT 450, 225/50 R17 on a 2000 SE. They are very noisy. Want to run the same size or maybe 225/55. Was looking for advice on an affordable tire with a good ride and no road noise. HELP!

Like I said above, I've been running the NT450s in 225/50/17 for a while. I agree with you. They are loud. I have switched to Avon Tech M500 tires in the same size (225/50/17). They get good reviews on TireRack, and so far I am pleased with them. They're definitely quieter than my Nittos, and they grip well.

Oh yeah... I forgot to mention that the Avon Tech M500s are less expensive than most other tires in our size. The Kumhos are probably cheaper than the Avons, but I think I'd buy the Avons again.
