Yokohama Winter F720 blown!
Yokohama Winter F720 blown!
Well my wife driving the max on the hwy was coming home from work this evening and the front right Yokohoma Gaurdex K2 F720 tire just gradually ruptured. Both sides of the tire has numerous punctures.
I was very surprised by the damage. I do make sure that the tire has its correct pressure and in good condition. I've only had these tires for 2 winters.
Tire size: 215/60/R16 (95Q) w/steel rim. I use my 17" stock for summer.
She's fine though. She said she didnt hit anything or drove into a pot hole.
I'm hopeful to get a free replacement.
Anybody else have this experience with this tire type?

any tire this has been punctured it no good no more. also any tire that been punctured avoid the manufactures warranty-and speed rating. even thought it has been patch really good inside. plugging a tire is a big no=no
you have get to a new tire when it puntured to be really safe.

Obviously the condition of the tire is beyond repair. It's like it got gunned down. Getting a new one today.

Besides, I'm pretty sure he means the tire has holes in it from the blow-out.
Could be just a freak occurance, like maybe from getting a small leak which caused the pressure to go too low on the highway, or maybe some previous damage from running something over just made it snap... In any case, get it checked out by the place where you bought it from or a Yokohama dealer and maybe they can replace it pro-rated for you. Doesn't hurt to try. Good luck.
I figure there was about 15 holes/rips on each side. Surely not repairable
Interesting enough, a long steel spike(5") was pulled out of the tire today. The place where I bought my tires called it a 'flat' and not a mfr.defect.
I agreed with them but man the damage to this tire was weird.
The Yoko's Guardex F720 are discontinued and were replaced by the Yoko Ice Guards IG10 which is apparently better. Obviously I had to get another tire since you don't ride with only 1 diff type.
I was however covered with a limited warranty. The final cost out of my pocket was $114 CDN(92 US) which included 10% of the 2 new tires (the % is based on my original yoko's retail price), wheel balance, environment tax, gov't tax and new valves.
The yoko's F720 retailed @ 225$ cdn/2 yrs ago.(I had bought them for 150$)
