help with good tire purchase

was wondering what everyone thinks are soem good quality lasting tires. i would be getting 235/40/18's ... and will be only SLIGHTLY lowered on h&rs, with a body kit...dunno if that helps a choice. but i wont be needed all season tires, just summer tires, or whatever they call them because i would take the rims off in the winter and put on my stockies. thanks for your help everyone.

ps- i have been looking around tirerack's survey on tires, but curious what people have an like about their tires and what the orgers think. thanks again

I've had the Kuhmo ECSTA ASX for about 11k now, they're nice. Have a sick 95W load rating because they're reinforced. Work nicely in 9" of snow, too. Cost around $118 for a 235/40-WR18. Like them because they're unidirectional.

Yeah, why would we think you need A/S tires in RI? Get what you want, all the ones you mention s*** imho. Doesn't sound like you're too concerned about the correct sizing other.

Try another tire then, I think you will find it's the Maxima not the Kuhmos. The ASX are my 2nd set of 235/40-WR18. Some people really feel better when they spend more, it's a mental thing. My previous 235/40 A/S had no problem in 25" of snow. Could be my Vermont driving skills and despite lousy tires and car, who knows? But I had no problem this year in the snow and I personally wouldn't spend more than $120 on an 18" tire for a 4th gen Maxima. Once again, if you're rich or your rents are paying, that doesn't apply.

whoa, dude i was just teasing man, chill. and besides i said above that i wasnt going to need all season tires because i plan on taking my rims off in the winter anyways. and since when would 235/40/18's not be a good fitment for an 18" rim...i dont understand what u are trying to say man, but u def may know something i dont, so please explain, either that or u misunderstood me. just dont go immediately to the rude reply posting right away, please.

the potenza re750 are really good tires. i have the same size as you on my maxima right now and am very happy with them, and had some 225/45/17 on a matrix and liked them on that too. id recommend them. best place to get them that i have found is Costco btw you just have to special order them at the store though. takes about a week or less to get them in.

thanks for the input, i am seriously considering them too, them or the g-force KDW 2's but the g-forces got a little better reviews and they are like 30 bucks cheaper a tire, i would check out costco's pricing but they arent on the website, and there's no costco within 50 miles of me, so i dont know. thanks for replying tho

i know tirerack isnt the cheapest and im trying to find the g-force kdw-2s cheaper somewhere, but i cant find them anywhere, if anyone knows any place besides tirerack it'd be appreciated. thanks

Broaner and I have been running Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s and really like them. Excellent deal, they were $87 each in 235/45/17 on TireRack, which is a LOT of bang for the buck. Great ultra-high performance summer tire.

Out of those 3 tires, I'd choose the Goodrich's. They'll have the best grip, although they will be a little louder and probably not as long lasting as the other 2. I don't know anything about the Avon's, though.
Check out Toyo Tires. The tire rack doesn't carry them, but everyone who gets them seems to like 'em. I had a set of Proxes 4 on my car for about 500 miles and liked 'em. They handled well in all conditions, and weren't TOO loud on the highway. I think that the Tire Rack also carries an UHPAS Continental in that size that is being reviewed well. You might take a look at that tire, too.

the potenza re750 were $747 for the four tires installed and after taxes. i just bought them in february is why i know. anyway they are really good tires in the dry and they even do good in heavy rain. and since you are going to use winter tires the snow grip doesnt matter.

Yeah if you only want to get 20,000 miles out of them under normal driving, That is the tire I'm running now & the treadwear sucks!! 235/40/18, I can't afford to replace tires evey 20,000 miles so I'm going w/ a differnet tire!
