Any recommendations for new tires?

Does anybody have any recommendations for some new tires? I have a 99 Maxima with the 16 inch, 5 spoke wheels and I drive primarily on the highway and some gravel roads (I live in the sticks!!). I'm taking my Nokian winter tires off soon and am thinking I should replace the 2 different types of tires my car came with for the summer with 4 of the same kind.

I'm looking into the Toyo Proxes 4...about 180 a piece here in s.ontario. Tire rack doesnt sell the Toyos, but might be worth a look.. seems like there are a lot of good reviews

so, i dunno if i understand are u looking for all seasons or summer tires? if summer ONLY then i would suggest the BF goodrich kdw-2s, they've got crazy reviews and only 126 ea. on tirerack, which means u could possibly find them cheaper somewhere else.

Which tire place sells these? Did you go to L.U.?

I'm definitely looking for summer tires cause I have good winter ones already. I can't seem to find those BF Goodriches on Tire Rack though. I guess I'm looking in the wrong spot. I try looking them up on google along with those Toyos!

Go to Toyo Canada's website. They will have a list of dealers. I'm pretty sure there are a couple in Thunder Bay. I'm up at LU about 3 times a year. Next trip, April 21. should i be bringing my kayak, or skis? BTW..I too run Nokian Haak 1's in the winter. I have them studded. A small shop will do that for you even thoug it's against the law.Totally awesome on the ice!

Actually they are making studded tires legal next winter, but only in Northwestern Ontario. This is due to the fact that our highways can be so treacherous and there are so many accidents. I'm sure that soon after, the rest of Ontario will legalize them.

Kayak or ski's...hard to say! It's sort of that in between time, but I'm sure the ski hills will be closed. Not quite sure if the ice will be off the lakes or not though. Are you driving your Maxima up?

nooooo.. unfortunately, coming up with the F150 Supercrew. Picking up 2 teens who finished 1st year at LU. Might have to drag a U-haul trailer along behind, depending on how much stuff they have accumulated at the Mall and the Future Shop!

I just purchased a set of Avon Tech M500s from TireRack.com. Had them installed on Tuesday, and so far so good. They're the stock size (225-50-17). They feel similar to the Potenzas in the dry, maybe with a little more bite through corners. I've noticed they tend to follow cracks and contours in the road a little too much, but this may be a result of the technician putting too much air in the tires. I'm going to try reducing the pressure and see if that helps. Haven't tried them in the rain yet, but I'm in San Diego so that's not a huge concern for me. But I'm certain they'll be better than the craptenzas.

Thanks for the info - I've been doing research on those tires. Has anybody heard anything about Falken ZE-512's? How about Yokohama Avid V4's ?(I already have 2 from the dealership from when I bought the car so I'm guessing they are just basic cheapo tires) I need to buy within the next couple days (sooner than I was hoping for) so I'm looking for something pretty affordable at this point!

Here we go again on the 512s. Most people here seem to like them for who knows what reason. I hated them enough to take a hit on them and move on.
