Fuzion Zri First Impressions
Fuzion Zri First Impressions
I've only put about 500 miles on the set (235/45R17 94W on the OEM SE rims and yes I know and fully understand) in two weeks (been on the road), but these are my first impressions:
I'm running the pressure at 34 psi all around. Will increase to 36-37 and see how it affects the gas mileage, if at all. The way the gas prices are going and may put the snow tires back on...
In all, I'm satisfied considering I only paid $131 a tire mounted, balanced and after taxes (no road hazard with such a cheap tire. I'll take my chances) but I'm a little disappointed at the noise levels and lousy tracking, not to mention the instant loss of gas mileage (again, this may be a product of the larger rim diameter and not the tires).
- Dry Grip: Excellent. I am yet to find the limit.
- Wet Grip: Not enough info. I've only driven them once in the wet, but anything will be better than the RE92s.
- Snow Grip: The guys at the shop though I was pushing it by taking the snows off in the middle of March. They were right but I was lucky to be on the road driving a rental...
- Hydroplaning resistence: TBD. I'm yet to hit a puddle with them. The radar says I'll know in about half hour...
- Noise: Very Loud. Louder than the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 snows and that's pretty bad. Drone at low speeds, probably masked by road and wind noise at higher speeds.
- Handling: Excellent. Sharp steering and stability in the turns. Just what I wanted, not like the squirmy Falken 512s.
- Comfort: Not at all. The stiff sidewalls make it for a harsh ride on the OEM SE suspension, but it steers and turns sharply!
- Wear: TBD.
- Rolling Resistance: Apparently very high. Lost about 2 mpg the week I swapped the snow tires and didn't change my driving habits. Unsprung weight didn't change, but the snows are on 16 in steelies (bulk of the rotating mass closer to the hub).
- Other: Follows ruts and other road imperfections way too easily. Anyone who has a chance of driving during construction season on these should keep both hands on the wheel...
