falken ziex ze-512 tread life
i read some threads on the forum recommending the falken ziex 512 tires, but i read elsewhere that they wear out really quickly
some of the threads on here might have been when they first got the tire, after using it for awhile has anyone found that the tread life isn't good
i need a replacement for my 2k2 se and i want to stay with the 225/50 size

Get on tirerack and see what the highest rated tire is in your size and type of tire, ie. summer or all-season, high-performance/ultra high-performance, and take it from there.
Personally I wouldn't stoop to putting a Falken Ziex 512 tire on a 2002 SE as it would be sacrilege.

I have spent two weeks researching this tire delema. I read several places that the 512's were pretty decent tires, BUT read several people getting very short mileage life from them. If you're hoping for 30K mi. and drive really gently, they might make it barely. If you're looking for a 20K mi. tire, they will probably last that. My research took me to going to a Toyo Proxes 4 tire. It was only available as a 235/45/17 (which the tire guys say's fit's fine on the stock 7" rim even though the book shows 7.5 rim needed) This tire is reported to last upwards close to 50K miles. I'm hoping to get at least 40K from it with just regular commuteing driving by wife.
All my knowledge is from research, not my actual using of this tire. Just thought I'ld share it with you.

From my limited experience, wear is an issue (I only put 3300 miles on the set of 512s untile I took them off). I never even made it to Falken's prescribed rotation distance of 5000 miles. The tires wore about 1/32nd to almost 2/32nds (outer blocks of the front tires) in just that time. If you extrapolate, at that rate they would have gone to 20-25K miles even if you rotate them. About 65% city/35% highway driving.
