R Compound Q's

My tires will be at the end of their usable life in a short time and I'm debating what to do. Now that I have all this power available without a sluggish auto to put it threw I'm really starting to realize how much FWD sucks. Stabbing the throttle anywhere above 3K in first results in stuttering wheel hop even though I have filled engine mounts and AGX struts. I shudder to think how much worse traction will be once the blower is on. The first 500RPM after the 1-2 shift continues to result in hardcore stuttering wheel hop. As it gets warmer it seems the wheel hop is transfering more to spin which I certainly like but this is only when the tires are warm and its at least 70 degrees. Only then does the hop sometimes decide to become spin. And even then it isn't every time. One thing I know for certain is that I will not be continuing to use the Kumho 712's. They were a great first tire to match new rims but I've exceeded their gripping capabilities and its time I get a real tire.

At this point I'm stuck between really good street tires and R compound tires. I have heard great things about the Kumho MX's. But I'm wondering if I'll be satisfied with the MX. So I ask, for those of you that had 712's and upped to MX's was the straightline grip improved a lot or was it just some?

Next, for those of you with R compound tires, I know they are intended to lateral rigidity and grip but how is the straightline grip? How is the mileage? Which are the best? And where do I buy? Basically I need the grip of a Drag Radial except with the sidewall support of a good summer tire.

I never had 712s .... the reviews of people that I know with 712s was enough for me to pass on them..... I had the MXs .. they worked very well ... not as sticky as an "R" compound or a drag radial..... however they are leaps and bounds above the 712s.. I think they are a great bang for the buck tire.... you won't get a better tire for the money.... as for "R" compounds ... I run Pirelli P-Zero Corsas ... the are streetable... however I don't think stright line they provide that much more grip than my MXs... cornering they kill street tires (any street tire) .... if you are going to run "R"s on the street ... I hope you have a large tire budget... tread wear rating 60 vs 220 for the MXs ..... and also consider that they will harden with every heat cycle.. so grip will drop over time....
