How many of you have ordered tires got them on your car and had something go wrong with them?

I bought a new set of Toyo Proxes4 and the front left rim has a ton of weights on it(the old tire didn't) and shakes all the time but more so at certain speeds. Not bad shaking but it doesn't ride like new tires should.

I was just wondering if this is common. I know tires can be out-of-round and I think this is the reason mine is messed up. All the other tires are balanced fine and have minimal weights on them. I have already called the place back where I got them and they said bring it back and they will check it out. So, what should happen next after I take it back and they see the tire,not the rim, has a defect. They should replace it right?

I just hate to have to go through this. The place I bought the tires from isn't the best at customer service. So what should I be prepared to tell them?

 

They can try to demount the tire and spin it 180 degrees, then rebalance. But I'm thinking you should ask to get it replaced.

 

I've heard that they could do that but I really think it will have to be replaced. The rim has weights stacked 3 high in one place and two high in another. And I'm not talking about just 3 weights but a whole line of weights about 7-8 long that are 3 deep. It's a ridiculous amount of weights.
But, I am def going to ask that it be replaced.

If I did have to replace it, that would be on the manufacturer not the retailer, right. So the place I bought it from shouldn't be out any money, should they?

 

I agree. It's horrible that the installer even tried to balance the combo doing that. I'd really be in someone's face about that. sheeshes!

 

I'd say look into getting the tire replaced. Something is way out of wack. There should be no reason for that much weight needed to balance.

are you talking about the little square pieces that sit on the inside of the rim?
i got my rims powder coated and they never put those back on. can this be a problem?

 

Yea that is what I am talking about. I would assume your tires are not balanced now that the weights are off. But I guess if your car rides fine then you don't need them but I am not sure that I have ever seen a tire with out any weights on it.

 

IMO i think every wheel needs to be balanced. The wheel weights are there to "even out" the centrifugal forces on the rotating wheel and tire. If there's no weights, you'll get uneven wear and flat spots on tires and various other suspension/wheel components that will go bad (i.e. bearings, struts, etc.). This is my best understanding on why there's weights on wheels when balancing.

Hunter -- most places have a 500 mile warranty on new tires, if they go bad they have to replace it. I don't know how much mileage you've placed on the tires or if the store has a warranty but it's usually the case.
