225 40 18 Tire Question

I've only had my 02 Maxima for about 3 weeks and today I hit a pot hole and then noticed that I had gotten a bubble in the sidewall. I was wondering if this is common with the smaller tires? In my 99 Maxima I had stock tires and never had a bubble from hitting a hole. Would I be better off going to a different size tire to get more meat between me and the road?

Thanks

I would look at 245/45 18 tires, as they are the standard tire size for a 6th gen Maxima SE, just my two cents.

How wide are your wheels? 235-40 or 245-40 are best depending on the wheel width.

I have the same wheel set up. A couple weeks after getting my new wheels I hit a pot hole at 70mph. I noticed a bubble on the outside, but what I didn't notice was that the inside of my rim was bent. The odd thing was that my car didn't vibrate when I drove it, but when they tried to balance it with a new tire, the wheel was all over the place. New Tire, New Wheel, F*&K!!!

One thing that also has not been covered is the mismatch of total diamter/circumference with a 225-40.. Stick with 235-40 or 245, they are closer within spec for the speedo etc. If you have no clue what I'm saying, check the final sticky in the wheel and tires forum ...
