^ That's normal. You have 3 choices:

1) Pound the ***** in
2) Get spacers
3) Do nothing

I chose 3, but the ends of my front axles are rusting... I did finally find some caps that slide on 1/2 way or so in the front wheels, and are apparently in there enough to handle autocrossing without falling out.

SilverGLE,

Thanks for the reply mane. I feel you on your response, but I can't just ride without caps. At least now I understand what the issue is. The way that the Nissan caps are made is the problem. It has 2 "bumps" on the back of the cap which are the rivets for how the Nissan symbol is attached to the actual cap. They hit the axle when you try to pop them in.

With all that said, I just put in the Infiniti caps on and they popped in perfectly on the front - they are a one-piece cap design (no rivets), while the Nissans are two-piece. So Ima go with those. I will probably try to alter the Nissan caps later on, but for right now, I will go with these.

I still need to put the caps on the rear axles (pics below). Can someone post pics of what the dust cap is supposed to look like after you dent it - WHEEL OFF if you can? I just want to make sure I do this right and don't damage anything...

bigtulley,

I used a dremel quick change cut bit and cut off about 1/3" of athe axel stud. Took 4 disks to cut through both axles. About 1/8" from the cotter pin. They fit perfectly.

I also hammered in the dust seal on the rears and those fit well. Basically, I used a regular hammer and worked my way around the seal. I didnt "crimp" it (hit so hard it peels the seal up). I just kept hammering it until it was "cone" shaped all around. Ever so often I would test fit the rim until I got it "right" and it would not move the center cap.

I am using the two piece Nissan Logo.

See this post for pictures http://forums.maxima.org/6290692-post627.html

I'm about to get some G35 17" sport rims. Both the front and rear tires are 245/45/17. Do you think there will be any rub with my stock suspension?

I drive and 01 i30 with 18" chrome g35s. Does infiniti make a center cap that will fit these rims on my car without popping out? If so do any of you guy know the part number for them? I really don't want to try screwing my axles up with a dremel.

Hello... My 4th gen has the G35 19''s on right now. Im due for some front tires and at the same time im droping my car on AGX's and s-techs. My fronts have 225/40 and the rears have 245/40 right now. I know a person that is selling some toyo tires new for $90 each but both tires are 245/40. Is it a good idea to put 245/40 on the front with the car so low? Cause that deal is to good to pass up.

Hey, will 5mm spacers level out the rear or should I go with 10mm? Will the rears rub with 235-40-18's ??

I have 235-45-18s on G35 wheels with Maxspeed (HR copy I believe) and Illuminas set on 3/3. The ride was too rough for me with 235-40-18. I have significant "rubbing" in the rears with bumps. I've heard some say they "rolled" their fenders, or something like that to fix this. Can anyone tell me what is needed to accomplish this (tools/body shop??). Any help is appreciated.

im not sure about a 2002, but i had a bodyshop roll the inner fender lip on the rears for me. Didnt do anything to the appearance of the car and gave me a good 1/2 of room so the tire wouldn't rub anymore in the back.

I don't know if this has been asked yet but I was wondering if any one has run the 05-06 G35 Coupe 19s on a 3rd gen. I got a good deal waiting for a set. Don't know how they'll look. I guess I'll post pics once I put them on. Won't be able to drive around yet though since the engine is torn apart for some repairs. Mine is dropped with Eibachs so we might be looking at some rubbing especially with the stock G35 tires. We'll see.

what are the most often used sizes for the g35 coupe wheels? i bought some off a guy that had them on his 240 sx and he was using 225/45/18 all the way around. should I stick with the same or what? I have stock everything as far as suspension and wheels go. I have an 01 maxima se.

Never mind, 235/40/18 it is.....

thats my car when i had those wheels. slammed huh? 1.7 inch drop isnt good enough for you? haha

I think sprint makes a spring that lowers the car by another .3 inches but im thinking you might have more issues of rubbing to take care of.

As I am 1.7 inches dropped I had to roll my fenders for the wheels to not rub in the back when hitting bumps. I also had some very very light rubbing up front when the wheel was turned all the way to one side.

Hello all,

I recently had purchase 17" G35 Coupe 6 spoke rims currently they have 225/50/17 and 235/50/17 on them. I've been having rubbing issues on the passenger side even driving on the smoothest roads, and I read threw this thread before posting this. Can anybody confirm that it could be the rear tire size, the rear beam need re-align?which I found through the thread that could be causing this rub issue.

Thanks in advance.

Roger,

If you can, try switching the wider tires up front and see if you have the issue still. is it rubbing on the inside or outside and is it front or rear? i assumed rears.

off the top of my head i dont think thats the right size tire for 17s...think its 245/45/17.

As of right now seems to me like the rubbing is from the inside. I don't see anything on the outside of the tire or wheel wells, and yes it sounds like its coming from the passenger rear. I was thinking that it could be the tire size as well, but I thought 225 or 235/50 was stock size.

You may want to use 40 or 35 series tires so you do not rub

Hopefully that's the issue. I was planning to get with 235/40 all around, and though i want 245/40. But since I read on here their might be rubbing issues that would take me back to where I was with the tires I have now.

acually you can , i run even bigger rims on my 240
18x9.5 15 offset all the way about ,

i can put them on lower it and put spacers to bring out flushness if i need to , ofcourse if cant be slamed like that pic cuz its not a real pic but it can be done these wheels only have 30 offset and are 18x8 thats very easy to fix

g35s wheels run diff sizes because theres diffrent variations of wheels but more run 225/ 40 front and 245 40 rear , a 50 size is to big thats prolly why your rubbing , if its rubing on the lip just roll it , if its rubin on a coilover or stock stuff , spacer or raise the car

Question: Im now lowered on 2'' Megan springs w/ Kyb GR-2s, If I put G35 18''s on 225/45/R18 wheels on my car will I rub?

Also 5mm spacer around back would make it flush correct?

Thanks

n00b help please - 2004 Maxima winter rims downsizing from 18s to 17s?

Hello,

My mother in law has an 04 Maxima with 245/45R18 tires on it.

She wants to get winters as we are in the snow belt.

I found a few options and I'm wondering which will work the best.

Option 1:

I found a guy selling some rims he used on his 06 Altima SE-R. The are steel wheels with 225/50R17 rubber on them.

Option 2:

I found another guy selling some rims from a G35. They are 225/55R17. I think they are from a sedan.

http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...QAdIdZ96452940

Does anyone have any experience with going with 17's for the winter on an 04 Maxima that had 18's on it stock? I'm worried about brake clearance etc.

I read the sticky thread re: G35 rims and is says G35 rims that are 17 would fit on an 04. I'm a little hesitant as I don't want her to fork out the cash and then have a problem with brake clearance or something as option 1 are steel rims and options 2 are alloys.

Please advise if you have any experience in this area.

Best Regards,

GusTheCat

Nissan Cap Part #

Alright guys, from the info I gathered on this thread and some research. I finally found Nissan Caps that fit even with the axle end hitting it. The axle end was the issue with most caps, but these to tend snap on enough for them to NOT fall off. Here are some pics and part #'s for those who still looking.

I really want a set, so if anyone is interested in getting rid of theirs, feel free to let me know

Anyway, just for future reference when I get these rims, since I'll be lowered on K-Sports what would be the best tire size? I am not gonna be slammed, but probably sitting right above the tire. I want a wider tire for better grip, but I want to prevent rubbing. Could I run like a 245 with some negative camber or rolling the fenders?

Well, I found a set but they're 225/45/18 in the front and 245/45/18 in the rear. Fronts should be good, I think, but the rear are pretty much guaranteed to rub, right? Anything I can do with that current tire size while lowered to prevent rubbing with the K-Sports? Will fender rolling help? And any easy ways to do it without renting the roller?

EDIT: And if I did replace the rears, what would be the best size to keep everything consistent? Would 245/40/18 cause any problems? Will that still rub?

Hey guys it's been awhile since I've been on here....but looking for some help.

Need some new tires (and wheels wouldn't hurt) and didn't know if the M35/45 18" would fit on my I30? Pair on the board for sale and the price isn't bad. Any idea how these would look, and if they would even fit?

Still trying to find a set for my Maxima, but I'm looking for tires now. The local performance tire shop told me a few things. 1. That the load rating on a 225/40 tire won't work on the Maxima. 2. They won't install them because it's FWD and FWD cars shouldn't have staggered rims/tires.

So going with the theory 225/40 supposedly won't work even though people on here run them... can I run a 235/40 and a 255/35 on KSports? I'm not slammed, but it's an even drop. Wondering if I'll have rubbing or anything.
