OEM is 245/45-18. I wouldnt go any bigger. Read the Sticky. Why would you wanna go wider for snow...?

Wider tires perform worse in the snow.

225/55-17 are the proper size to use. That's the same size that comes on the SL's. Get a cheapo steel rim and you'll be set for winter.

Well im running a 255/35/19 on my car and it looks great. I was a little worried the 255 would be to wide for 8.5 inch wheel so definately not on our stock 18x7.5 wheels.

For snows? Those are much too big for snow tires. You will float and have a lot of trouble turning with snow tires that large. In a FWD car this will be even worse as the yalready have a tendency to push the nose. You should stick with atleast OEM size or even drop down on the width if they will fit your rims. You should check your rims, or owners manual for rim width, then check the tire specs to see what size rims they will fit. Tirerack is a great spot to find specs on tires.

You need to increase the ground pressure. I'd go down a size/up a series to try to keep the odo/speedometer within calibration.
