What to do about GLE honeycombs?

I have a few questions:

First off, I've seen people who've stripped and repainted the SE rims, but has anyone ever done the same to the '96 GLE honeycombs?

I just noticed one of them has a 2" hole in the clearcoat that is going to get worse I'm sure and I don't have a lot of dough to buy new rims and I was thinkng painting these gunmetal gray might not look too bad.

Would the stripper destroy the matte-black portion of the rim inside the honeycombs?

Alternatively, if anyone in the DC area could hook me up w/some cheaper, but better rims let me know.

Lastly, I've never had a tire off these honeycombs, so does anyone know how much they actually weigh? Also, are they aluminum?

Thanks all for any information you can provide!

I hear ya on the honeycombs...mine were flaking too. I recently bought 98 se wheels and use the honeycombs for winter. I am planning on painting them gunmetal. I think a good stripper will get rid of all the paint on the wheel, including the black areas.

I found the weights on this website, http://www.superhonda.com/tech/wheel_weights.html and on this website, http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel22.shtml
16.5 lbs...sounds too light to me, but i haven't weighed them.

I hope that answered some of your questions....Good luck, Dave

I believe I have heard of people stripping the honeycombs, so I would think it would be ok.
