Tire/Rim Shimmy Issue
Tire/Rim Shimmy Issue
I took my rims off since the winter is just around the corner. I put my stock setup back on. I had the shimmy with the aftermarket rims. No shimmy with the stock setup. I had my 20's balanced at least 3 different times. Can tires cause the dreaded shimmy? If so, is there a way I can test it without buying new tires? Any info is greatly appreciated.
The dealer told me that one of the reasons that this car has the shimmy problem is due to the low profile tires. According to his logic installing 20" rims would make the problem worse. He said that these cars are very sensitive to road conditions. I've had my tires road force balanced. The steering rack was adjusted and I had new tires installed. After all this was performed most of my shimmy issue was resolved. However, I was informed that it's very important to keep the tires balanced and rotated regularly and to maintain the proper tire pressure.
