Replacment Tires

Well after 50,000 miles it's time to get rid of the stock tires. I need suggestion on a good all season tire for the SE since we do get snow up here. After doing some research I am cosidering the Avon Tech M550 A/S as a replacement, any suggestions??

Do NOT get all season tires. Get performance tires. I have Sumitomo. Love em. Yokohama are good and other high performance tires. Maybe try slightly wider and lower profile ones for even better traction

I wonder how well his "performance" will be in the snow....

I just ordered the Avon tires off of Tirerack and whata diffrence they made, I was a little skeptic at first because of how cheap they where, but people where giving them good reviews, so far I've put about 200 miles on them and they feel pretty good, and I can now take a corner at 60 w/o the RSA's spinning out on me.....horrible tires! (well everyone knew that on here....)

Please don't listen to this. If you live anywhere it snows then you want what really doesn't exist which is a All Season High Performance Tire because you have to sacrifice one for the other altho I guess you can get a good mix between the two with some types of tires. Anytime it's wet or snow, the skinnier the tire, the better for traction. You only want wider tires when you are concerned about dry traction which is all you have to worry about in CA, but this person mentioned the word snow, hence I would suggest either 215/55/17 or 225/50/17 (OEM) Ideally you should have 215 for winter and 235 for dry performance in summer but not everybody has money for that so they make stock a 225 tire which is the middle of the road obviously. If you get the 215 you wont notice a difference in dry traction during the summer unless you are taking sharp corners at insanely fast speeds and you WILL notice a difference in the wet/snow. Granted since they are not as low profile they may not look as "cool" I guess but I have them and I can barely notice a difference. After all, it's only 5 mm

If they fit, consider BF Goodrich Traction TAs in H-rating.

If your main concern is snow, get snow tires. But snow tires dont peform well when its not snowing. U may want to consider getting two sets of wheels, like we did when we lived back east years ago. U can get a second set of stock SE rims cheap, and then u can put snow tires on for snow, and good performance tires when its dry

Yup, if you can afford it get a summer and a winter set if you live in snow area. I have W-rated performance tires and a set of steelies with winter tires on. South-central Ontario can get a lot of snow

this topic should be a sticky...good/decent all season for the stock 225/50/17s

Im in the same boat. The OEMS were horrible. Im looking for a good replacement without breaking the bank.

I think Im going to go with the Pirelli 4 seasons. Nothing is going to be good in teh snow due to the tire size----but the Pirelli seems like a decent tire for the stock wheel at a decent price.

I really wanted the Turanza LSV's, but they were more $. They would have been my first choice.

Bones45, I just got 4 new LS-Vs in 225/50/17 and I don't have anything but good things to say about them. Granted I've only had them on for a week but it has changed the whole feel of my car. I looked everywhere for a good deal on these tires and finally found an unbeatable price. I got them for $150 each installed with lifetime rotation, balancing and road hazard. There is no way anyone can beat that. I went to Costco and they special ordered them for me at no additional cost. They arrived in 4 business days and the installation was superb. The only other place that I have found them at a reasonable price was on Tirerack and they still wanted $150+ which did not include any of the things noted above.

I love the way you start a post and say that you are looking for a good all season tire and then some nimrod says "dont get all seasons---get blah blah blah.."

Yeah..thanks grateful----Im going to look into the Costco thing for the LSV's----$150 per installed sounds great for that!
