2003 maxima snow tires 16" or 17"???

I was on Tirerack.com looking for snow tires and found that I would be looking at around ~$600 for tires alone (not including shipping, install, etc).

I also noticed that if 16's would fit it would be quite a bit cheaper. I could buy some crappy rims for winter. Plus I could get narrower rims which would be better for the snow.

Would 16's fit?
Suggestions?

16s would fit fine. Use the calculator that was posted as a sticky on the tire section to make sure you buy the right size of tire

You will definitely save a lot more money by going a size less.

The narrower the tire the better it will work in the snow. And cheaper too! Its a win win situation. Always go as small as possible for winter. Usually the spare tire is the smallest diameter rim that will fit on the car, so check that and buy an appropriately sized tire/rim combo.
