What 17" Tires for 2000 SE 5 Spd?

My first '00 SE had 16"' Pirelli P6 tires and they seemed reasonable on the slick stuff and ran nice and quiet on the road.
The Max we just bought to replace the first is also a 2000 SE 5 spd but has the optional 17"s. Right now has Cooper tires on it that have about 5k-10k left on them but I hate how noisy they are.
What are you running on yours? I don't have a drop or other mods and don't plan on doing any soon...
Looking around online so far at Costco and Discount Tire and have a little sticker shock compaired to what the 16" Pirelli's cost.
Suggestions...?

How much are you looking to spend?

How much snow do you see a year?

I would like to get a new set for around $500.00. I've now looked some more online (tire stores aren't open here on Sunday)

I'm wide open for suggestions.
Oh yeah... as far as snow... Remember the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics...
I live 25 miles from where most of the skiing events were.

Check out edgeracing, they have pretty good prices:

I believe tirack.com also has some good deals.

I would suggest 235/45/17 Continental Extreme Contacts. I have them on my car and they are a great All Season aimed at snow performance.

Check them out here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=0

They look pretty good and have great reviews for traction and quiet ride... Not to mention the $120.00 price tag... Thanks for the suggestion.

Upsatemax, how are these tires working out for you in the storm you just got hit with?

They have been great in the snow, The Maxima is upstate (20miles north of Albany) while I now live downstate. So I live about 300 miles away from my car now...

So in short I have not driven it in this storm but several like it last year...

RE: 17" Tires

I have a 2000 SE as well. Replaced the junk Bridgestone RE92's with a set of Yokohama Avid V4S's. The difference is nothing short of amazing; low road noise, great coerneing and steering response, and great snow traction for a performance tire. NE Ohio winters can be brutal at times, looking out your offcie window at all of the snow coming down and wondering how you are going to make it home is no fun. All of my snow driving worries have gone away with these tires. A great deal too. you can get them are Tire Rack for a little over a 100 bucks each. Hope this helps.

How much noise are you experiencing? I have brand-new HR-IIs on a '03 Maxima I just purchased and it sounds like some kind of 'machine' is running back there when I am above 40 mph.

No noise is coming from the front, and no complaints about handling though....
