Replacing the tire is not an option. I was thinking about getting a big black screw and coating it with a hot asphalt based material. I would then screw the screw in and hope that it holds.

Is risking your life and those around you on the road worth the cost of a new tire?

It cannot be plugged since it on the sidewall and I would not count on a screw holding, just get a new tire.

My tire got slashed. In fact all the tires on the side of the street where I parked got slashed. Some racist f-kers whom they never caught. Anyway new tire was only $65 and they even put it on in less than 5 min. That's the way to go.

Put your spare on and drive slowly and cautiously till you can afford a new tire.

I don't drive slowly or cautiously.

I have been maintaining the air pressure in the tire since I found the nail. I will be checking into used tire places this week for a replacement.

You can't patch that. Get a new tire ASAP

Don't drive around in that. Spend the money and be on the safe side. It may be hard on your wallet, but you'll have a peace of mind.

I'm totally with Andrew here. Then again my replacement tire was only $35. Got a used one from a local tire place. Far less than I thought I'd be spending.

Seriously though, as the commercial goes... You have a lot riding on your tires. Don't want to end up with a blowout and losing control of your vehicle. Or even simpler, having the tire deflate entirely and scraping up your rims.

Still think you can't afford it?
