Nitrogen

My local CostCo has started offering to fill tyres with nitrogen, claiming that the tyres will last longer, mpg will increase, blah blah blah. At $10 per tyre. Seems to me that I would be better saving the $40 towards tyre replacements. Or is it really worth it? All I can find on the Web about it is some sites talking about filling heavy truck tyres with nitrogen.

Very dry air has the same affect. Grade D or E breathing air is extremely dry (< 24 PPM of water vapor) and would probably give you the same benefits as using Nitrogen. You might be able to find it at a SCUBA shop or any place that provides Safe Breathing Air for indudtrial use. I'd think it wouldn't cost more than a few bucks to do all 4 tires and your spare. I'll do all 5 for $10. If you come to Houston.

Thanks for all the info. Especially those two threads, which told me more than I ever wanted to know! I think I'll fill them with nitrogen but at 60 psi, so they will stay up longer.... (no, just joking guys)
With super expensive tyres on the car I'd probably invest the extra cash, but not with the boots that are on it right now!

Mine was no extra charge

I put 4 new Bridgstone on my wife's car and Costco added Nitrogen as part of the normal installation. No extra charge.
