How long did your PZERO NERO M&S last?

I'm currently at 11-12k on my 245/40/18 Pirelli PZERO NERO M&S....when I physically look at the tire, it still has alot of beef...never actually measured how deep the tread is though....I'm pretty happy considering my old yokohama summer tires were noticeably worn at 10k....and at 15k only had 1/32th of an inch left...prob coulda squeezed 16k out of them before they became slicks....

The sidewall of my Pirellis say they have a 400 treadware rating...its pretty high compared to others....I usually see 200-340 being the norm for aftermarket tires....to those who replaced their pirelli M&S, how many miles did you squeeze out of them before you replaced?

Also, doesn't traction increase as tread goes away? I'm sure someone like Irish44j can answer this question since he auto-x alot....

I got about 37k on my M&S with probably another 8k left on them. Dry traction got better, wet traction decreased and it also got noisier (although not by much, it's a noticeable whine at speed). Still very good tires IMHO.

My (read: only) biggest complaint with the PZN is the tramlining - which got progressively worse as the miles racked up for some reason.

thanks for the response...what is tramlining? and you can honestly say u squeezed 45k miles out of these tires if u kept them even longer?

You're welcome.

Tramlining is where (long) longitudinal cracks, road uneveness or ruts tend to grab on to your tires (or vice versa) and pulls the car in one direction. Here's a detailed explanation from Tirerack: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=47

Honestly? The tires may have made it to 45k if i stuck with it, but seeing as the rainy season is upon us down South, i didn't want to take chances with wet traction. To me that was the deciding factor, inspite of dry traction getting somewhat better.

I was considering the P-Zero Nero M&S but I dealt with tramlining on a set of Kumho Supras. I knew that the PZN's suffered from this more than most tires.

I recently picked up a nail in my rear tire, Nitto 555's. I replaced both rear tires with Kumho SPT's. They performed excellent against other Ultra High Performance summer tires. I wanted them mainly for the softer sidewall. I know that sounds odd, but the Nittos stiff sidewall, scary rain performance, and hard rubber really left me looking for something else.

It is hard to do a comparison with new tires only in the rear but so far so good. They are definitely quieter and they absorb bumps MUCH better than the Nittos. The softer sidewall feels like a slight wiggle in long high speed turns but I will sacrifice razor sharp handling for quiet and smooth. I don't have any rain experience with them yet, but I don't think it will be a problem. Tirerack experts rated this tire extremely well for rain performance.

When the Nittos up front finally wear out (and none too soon), I will replace them with the SPT's and write up a full review.

I've had mine for about 25K miles. I make sure to rotate and balance them as often as possible. At 10K miles, I could hardly tell Ive been riding on them. I dont drive like a bat outta hell, but I definately like to get on it every now and then. Id like to think I can get one more years worth outta them (about 20K miles).
